Creating an Earthship Intentional Community - Ongoing Meetings

Please join us to continue shaping our vision of an earthship intentional community.  Everyone with an interest in creating a cohousing community here in Washington State is welcome.  We are in the beginning stages of our formation.

Suggested reading: Creating a Life Together - Practical Tools to Grow Ecovillages and Intentional Communities, by Diana Leafe Christian.

Some more specific directions to meeting spot:

Easiest to park behind the church on Howell St.  Standing on Howell St., facing the church campus, you'll see a brown house on the corner. Take the stairs to the left of that house, follow the sidewalk to the right, and go into a courtyard. On your left you'll see double doors marked "Parish Hall". Enter the doors and make your way to the Fireside Room, the second door on the left.

Can't make this one but I have been gifted with the right people and will be bringing them to the next meeting. I feel so lucky.

Finally this week I heard Laura Sweaney's Permaculture Intro this week and was reminded once more about how permaculture design deals with both with the land and its uses and with the relationships of all the inhabitants of the land including the people. My hope is that whatever community is formed will honor all of the permaculture ethics and principles while visioning. We have many great pioneers to learn from as we go about our own pioneering.

Also the comments in Diana's book about county zoning to me suggests the first order of business should be researching where it would be possible to consider building earthships based on building codes. Geography might determine a lot both about necessary finances and about usefulness of particular skills.

One of the questions I do have is about the description as co-housing. Has a co-housing model already been decided on? If so I probably would not qualify financially. As a single older adult with more limited resources I am not interested in an each- household-build-your-own-house model. I could pull in a tiny house but it would hardly be an earthship.:)

I am helping facilitate a Spiritual Activism Circle every 3rd Sunday afternoon this year so I will not be able to be at this Sunday's meeting. However I have lots of questions as well as skills to offer if that is what we are doing this week. Especially after reading most of Creating a Life Together (am into the final section now). I hope there will be a way I can participate. One thought I had is to prepare my own list of skills to send along. Do we know who will be facilitating?
