Foundations for Ecological Literacy 4-hour workshop June 8th and more

Hello Permaculturalists,

This 4-hour exposure workshop on June 8 at the Union Bay Natural Area is the first of many this summer. Some will be 1-day or 2-day intensives and there is a 6-week series that goes deeper.  Most will be at the Union Bay Natural Area and some will be at The Whidbey Institute.

The learning process in the workshops grows out of a foundation of perceptual awareness and then incorporates basic interactive, intellectual, and empathic understanding of Gaia Theory, Naturalist Knowledge and Tracking, Bird Language, Storytelling, and Design. The model is designed to be accessible to children as well as adults, so that children can be engaged primarily through tuning perception and awareness and grow into the headier aspects with age and adults can communicate with children and learn to embody and emotionally connect to an ecological understanding that is too often information overload.

The design part of this workshop may be some review for those who have practiced permaculture, but also may include some new material and will certainly provide a new context. The rest of the elements will help any designer embody their ecological understanding. The model was developed out of my own effort to integrate the principle-based understanding into a more embodied and particpatory sensory awareness of ecology. This workshop and the more in depth workshops I'll be offering this summer are mainly about that primary principle: Observe and Interact. Please contact me with any questions. Since I got my start with permaculture, I think permaculturalists will be particularly able to draw a lot of value out of these workshops.

I hope to see some of you this summer!
