Encore! Seattle Big Wheel Special SPC Light Show

By special arrangement, the Seattle Great Wheel will have an encore performance of their special light show just for the Seattle Photography Club.  If you missed it the first time around, here's your second chance!  The light show will begin at 8:00.

We will just group at the wheel.  There will be no formal gathering for this one.

Nice job Stan! I was shooting the Wheel last night and thought of trying some of those same (non-traditional) shots with zooming and panning also. I thought they came out cool how you did it as well. Nice work!

Great work! And awesome commentaries. LOL. Gotta pick that "shrooms" ice cream too next time. :D

Everyone did a great job of taking pictures. By the way when I got down there, there weren't too many people at all. Thanks again to everyone that helped me with the settings of my camera.

It was a great evening. I was worried about the number of people but there was plenty of room for all, and a big thanks to Geoff who was wonderful about helping everyone. Only a few miniscule drops of rain and the water was calm for great reflections. Fabulous light show!

Thank you Geoff! I also had a great time, but sorry I didn't get to meet you. Our little klatch of tripod huggers were busy clicking away, chatting, and comparing results. The ferris light show was extraordinary. It was dazzling to watch as well as to shoot. Afterwards I regretted not taking at least some footage to show my wife what it looked like to be there. How else can we thank the ferris wizard(s) besides posting on Facebook? Email?

    1 · September 18, 2013

    • Geoff V.

You can email their Facebook page as well. Those emails go the correct person. :) Glad you had fun Stan and I tried to meet everyone but next time I'll hopefully find you among the masses.

Thanks to all who came out to the Seattle Great Wheel special light show last night. They designed the show just us so make sure to thank them. It seemed like you all got some good photos and had fun! I tried to meet as many of you as possible, but it was a better showing than I even expected. From my count there was over 60 photogs! A wide range of experience levels but it was so awesome to see so many of you reaching out to your neighbors and talking to each other & giving tips on how to get a better shot. I'm excited to see more photos as they come in and remember to share them to the Seattle Great Wheel's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/TheSeattleGreatWheel. They would love to see them! Thanks again to each of you who came out and hope you had fun!

Meeting Spot: Alan Lawrence created this event and I'm assuming he will be there, but he said above that there will be no particular meeting spot. I think it is a good idea to not really have a specific spot to meet since there should be quite a large amount of you down there and we don't want to get in the way of the tourists and riders who will still be down there.

Me? Around 7:30pm I'll be on the landing below where the ticketing booth is on the pier between the Wheel and the Aquarium. I will start out by meeting as many photographers as I can while you are all shooting. If you have any questions about settings or anything else then feel free to say hi and ask away. :)

There will most likely be some wonderful photographers there tonight like Earnie Glazener and Alan Lawrence so keep your eyes open!

Most of all, have fun and get some great imgaes!

    Geoff

    Hi everyone,
you all are in for a treat on Tuesday. I wish I could go, but I will be in a Photoshop class. However, I was able to take quite a few shots of the wheel last night. It was all Seahawks team colors of course, but none the less nice. While I was there, I ran into Jeff, the gentleman that does the light show programing. Talk about a nice guy, they were scheduled to turn the light show off at 10pm, but right in front of me, he radioed to the crew to leave them on until close. I was literally the only one around, but he none the less kept them on for me. Wow!!!

Jeff also told me that the TuesdayNight light show is a brand new show that he created for the photo club's. Also, remember the infamous missing tooth from the last light show? It's fixed!

    Enjoy the show everyone.

    2 · September 16, 2013

  • Geoff V.

Remember everyone, on average only 25% of the people who RSVP will go to the free MeetUp planned events. With that math and good weather I would only expect that around 40-50 people will actually be there. The Great Wheel folks have designed a show that hasn't been seen yet just for us for this night. Don't let big crowds deter you from coming to the show. :) It's a great opportunity to meet other photogs in the area and talk about techniques. :)

I look forward to meeting lots of you for the first time and so many of you again! I'll be there rain or shine so if you still feel like coming then everyone is welcome! :)

Opening some space for 149 RSVP s :)

    September 15, 2013

  • Fran M.

I will not be going. Just too many people. I took some big wheel photos last Saturday. It wasn't as interesting as the special SPC show but still good practice shooting. I might post a few for the meetup.

    September 15, 2013

  • Richard

With 148 of us and 80 or so from the mountaineers, I am not sure that the location can handle 228 photographers....

    September 15, 2013

    • Syrinda S.

Weather will deplete somewhat. This is probably not a "last chance" event. Hope they repeat several times next year!

      September 15, 2013

  • Adrian N

Are we meeting at a specific spot? This is going to be my first meetup.

    1 · September 14, 2013

    • Donna

By the Wheel ticket booth. You'll know us when you see us! LOL

      2 · September 15, 2013

  • Jeff L.

almost sounds like the prelim to the hawks/49er game. any undercover cops dressed as Mountaineers going to be there? just kidding

    1 · September 14, 2013

    • Donna

LOL .. It looks like there might be upwards of 80 or more photogs! If the weather is crappy this will diminish considerably but some die-hards (like me) will still put on their raincoats, both for them and their cameras, and look for new approaches to shooting the wheel. :D

      1 · September 14, 2013

  • Donna

Just so you're all warned...The Mountaineers have set up a shoot for the same time as ours and it looks like there's going to be a bunch of them. Get your spot picked out and set up early cuz I think it's going to be mayhem when the show starts. I plan on being very mindful of who is shooting where as well so there's no accidental photobombing or losing of tempers. Just a heads-up. :D

    1 · September 13, 2013

    • Joel J.

Have fun, I'm going to be learning new Techniques in Photoshop while all the mayhem occurs. I am going to shot Sunday night.

      1 · September 14, 2013

    • Syrinda S.

Wow. I am sure this will continue to be repeated- and at this point the market is probably flooded with wheel images. Fun to try techniques- crowds- not so much. Tempers- I will be outta there.

One point I'd like to make is last time folks were confused as to where to meet, some of us went directly to the wheel, some met at the markets.

    September 13, 2013

    • Joel J.

Just meet at the wheel, no point in meeting at Tully's or wherever.

      1 · September 13, 2013

  • Geoff V.

Last time I walked around and tried to meet everyone and help with settings. I plan on doing that again but I also hope to have a little time to shoot for myself too. :)

Anyone who needs help just let me know and I'll assist while we are all shooting. :) Have fun everyone!

    3 · September 13, 2013

I'm also a first timer with this group as well. If you have any tips that can be shared on how to get good photos for this event it will be appreciated. See you next week.

18mm, f/22, 6 sec. should do just fine!

      September 13, 2013

    • Geoff V.

F11-F13 actually. If you shoot with F22 your photos will come out a little fuzzy with the kind of light we'll have by that time. The show last time it made sense to start out at F22 since the sun wasn't close to setting yet. But it is going to be nice and dark by 8pm. :)

Andrew .. even if there is, the public show never seems to be as good as what they put on for us! I went last time and it was so amazing that I went back for a public show and wasn't impressed. I would go and use the public show for practice if you need to but don't miss the club show! :D
