Each month, 15-20 photographers of all levels get together to discuss each other's images with emphasis on composition. The beginners learn from the pros, the pros learn from each other and we all have a good time with wine/beer to boot. Join us for at Vino on the Landing in Renton for a Monday evening for our monthly Wine & Critique Social.
THIS MONTH'S THEME: Abstract
Be creative with your camera and create an abstract that is both creative and interesting to the viewer. Be careful... there's a thin line between an abstract and a bad image. Engage the viewer longer with images that are not immediately recognizable.
Create strong, interesting compositions based on the elements and principles of design.
A. Elements—line, shape/form, texture/pattern, value, and space
B. Principles—contrast/variety, unity/harmony, rhythm/movement, repetition, scale/proportion, balance, and emphasis/focal point
You pick the subjects—nature, architecture, arranged objects, etc.
Move the camera around to find the interesting compositions—horizontal or vertical; bird’s eye or bug’s eye. Minor framing adjustments make all the difference.
Seek out interesting and unusual shapes, patterns, textures, and changes in value.
Try finding contrasts between size, distance, old/new, natural/manmade, rough/smooth, etc.
Try to push your subject beyond its initial context (e.g. instead of photographing a bowl of fruit, try photographing the fruit cut open, arranged in a pattern, submerged under water, and/or placed in an unusual environment)
RULE: All images should be taken during the month prior to the event
Bring your 5 images on a flash drive, SD card or CD.
There is usually a waiting list on these meetups. Please do not RSVP and not show up. Honestly, cancelling an hour before the event is the same as being a no-show! Preference will be given to those who have donated to the club during the current year and/or have not no-showed past Vino events.
It takes a lot of time, effort and money to keep this club going. We ask for an annual $20 donation. If you have not donated in 2013, please consider contributing $20 or any other amount by CLICKING ON THIS LINK or going to the meetup page and use the link on the left side of the page.
