I've always known I was a little "different." When I was a kid, I was often described as "too sensitive" or a "delicate flower." As a younger adult, I didn't really understand WHAT made me different. I read Elaine Aron's book "The Highly Sensitive Person" in 1997, and suddenly a whole lot more of my life made sense! The book "found me" by accident-- someone had left a copy in the TRAVEL section at Barnes & Noble... where I was looking for books about Ireland. I started this group in May 2010... basically because the possibility of a Seattle support group for HSPs had been TALKED about for 5-6 years, but nobody seemed willing to DO anything about it.
The Highly Sensitive Person, The Highly Sensitive Person in Love, The Highly Sensitive Person's Workbook. Currently reading "The Undervalued Self," which is also by Elaine Aron, but not specifically about high sensitivity. I've also read the books by Ted Zeff and Barrie Jaeger, which expand on the topic.
I'm an introvert, but I really LIKE people... but they also exhaust me, emotionally. Very sensitive to noise, sharp smells and bright light. Not good at "thinking on my feet," but by most measures quite intelligent... when I was in grade school, I was thought learning disabled because I was "slow to answer," even though my (eventual!) answers were always correct.
Being in nature, cooking, gardening, reading, writing, movies, music. I like going to art exhibits, farmer's markets, or just for a walk (and maybe picnic) in the park. I'm a nature photographer as a hobby... because I love being in nature. And, of course, I DO like to just have deep conversations with like minds! On the whole, I don't always feel compelled to be DOING something...
A little of all of the above... plus, I've been part of the global HSP "Community" for almost 15 years, and I really enjoy helping other people find more meaning in their own lives... through meaningful connections with their peers.
I'm a 54-year old Danish national, now living in Port Townsend, WA. I'm an HSP, an INFJ, an introvert, and enneagram type Nine, along with a few other "labels. Part of my "mission" in life is to help people of like-kind minds connect.
