When and how did you become aware that you're an HSP? And how did you learn about our group?

I've always known I was sensitive, but didn't begin to embrace it until about 20 years ago. I became aware of Elaine Aron's work a few years ago in the course of my work. Feeling too shy to join other Meetups, I decided to look for an HSP meetup group.

Have you read any of Elaine Aron's books about the HSP trait? Which ones?

"The HSP Workbook" (partially)

How have you experienced being an HSP? Please share a couple of examples of how being Highly Sensitive affects your life.

I'm highly intuitive, creative, passionate and compassionate. Others repeatedly say that I really hit the nail on the head with understanding them. However, it makes it difficult to make and maintain friendships. Others get intimidated by my ability to read behind what they are saying. I think most people feel more comfortable doing small talk and keeping things superficial, avoiding expressing what they really feel, whereas I "cut to the chase". I find it hard to to be inauthentic, so WYSIWYG with me. I also struggle with getting lost, both while driving and in terms of losing track of time. For example, recently I was driving to an appointment and remembered tension with a family member when I was in that particular area of the city. I felt the heaviness of that and got lost. I was late to my appointment, but don't know how late because I couldn't bear to look at the clock. I hate manicures-a stranger holding my hand and talking-augh!

What sort of activities do you enjoy? Besides just "meeting to talk," what sort of activities (if any) would you enjoy, as part of an HSP meetup group?

Yoga, going to art exhibits and museums, attending films, playing and listening to music, HSP workbook exercises, potluck dinners, dog walks, hiking. I'm in South King County, so I'd prefer that some outings happen down south. The city is a lot of fun sometimes, but I crave quiet, rural settings.

What do you hope to get from your membership in our HSP meetup? (i.e. friendship, activity partners, support, networking, etc)

Friendship - I'm a helping professional and love it, but I need to recharge in my off time, so I don't want to do professional activities (e.g. networking or being asked for free healthcare advice) in this group

Hello - I'm interested in meeting other HSPs and, like many of you, find Meetup intriguing, but daunting. I enjoy art, music, yoga, and animals and look forward to meeting others who appreciate authentic communication with self and others.

What Alisa is saying about this Meetup Group

I look forward to more M & G's. (Something in South King once in a while would be lovely if there are any other South King County HSPs.)
