Pratt Lake

NORTHWEST FOREST PASS IS REQUIRED

The Seattle Running Club hosts a trail run every Sunday beginning at 7:30 AM. This run has options of 8 miles or 16 miles and will accommodate a wide range of paces. All runners -- club members and nonmembers alike -- are welcome, though we encourage regular attendees to join the club. (Membership info is available at www.seattlerunningclub.org.) People are also encouraged to use comments to offer carpooling assistance, etc. More information is available at http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/pratt-lake

Thanks for leading yesterday's group Kevin. Beautiful day up there! My ankle tweak is OK. A bunch of RICE has me limping on it today, but it should be runnable in a few days with the help of some tape. Next time I'm up there I plan to hike up the rocky trail from the Denny Creek TH to Melakwa Lake and run down the sweet trail from Pratt Lake.

I think I am out. The kids are getting upset and asked me to take them for a hike somewhere instead. Can't refuse that!

Exit 47, cross to the north side of I-90, then a left turn and very short drive to the trailhead.

Hi, how long (time-wise) will the run be?

    October 10, 2013

    • Kevin S.

The plan is to do the loop (For the long run) with Pratt Lake, Melakwa Lake, the Denny Creek Campground, and the Pratt Lake Trailhead. I'm guessing the average will be about 4 hours 30 mins, but we'll probably have some groups going at different paces (faster and slower).

Is this a hike or a run?

    October 9, 2013

    • Kevin S.

Generally a run. However, there will surely be some good power-hiking going on during some of the steep climbs.

Is the gov't shutdown going to affect this run? I don't have a NW Forest Pass and when I went online to buy one, the website said due to the gov't shutdown, no passes were being sold....

This is the best information I could gather: http://www.wta.org/si... I think Pratt Lake has a self-issued permits at that trailhead, but if they close off the road to the trailhead, then I wouldn't bother with the pass since you would be parking on the side of a public road.

      October 9, 2013

    • Kevin S.

The trails will be open, but I'm pretty sure at the trailhead the bathrooms will be closed (or not serviced) and the trash cans will probably be overflowing. Parking out of the "pass area" is just a few hundred yards up the road from the trailhead - not far.

    October 7, 2013

Hi Joe - yep, Pratt Lake Trailhead at 7:30!

Last week of being on-call. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to make it to this one. Getting someone to cover for me two Sunday's in row would be quite a feat.

I'd like to come but don't (yet) have a forest pass. I'm happy to get one or would someone else be able to offer me a lift?

    October 3, 2013

    • Martin S.

Sure, that'd work. Looks like a 40 minute drive from there to the trailhead. Let's plan to meet at 6:40am so we've got plenty of time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
