Seattle Hadoop / Scalability / NoSQL Meetup: MongoDB

This meetup focuses on Scalability and technologies to enable handling large amounts of data: Hadoop, HBase, distributed NoSQL databases, and more!

There's not only a focus on technology, but also everything surrounding it including operations, management, business use cases, and more. We've had great success in the past, and are growing quickly!

This month's guests:

Grant Goodale, WordSquared. Wordsquared is one of the world's largest "Scrabble-like" games, but is an MMO as well. Massively fun, Grant will speak about using MongoDB and other tools in his infrastructure.

Speakers had good experiences to share. But rarely got into the problems, just talked features of Mongodb and explored some interesting cases of Word-2. Would have liked more talk about trade-offs.

The talk by 10gen was interesting and gave some details on MongoDB that were useful. The follow up talk by Word Squared was not very useful, as their use case was not demanding and did not help demonstrate the capabilities of MongoDB. However, it was interesting to learn more about how people are using it, advantages, and Geo 2D acceleration.
