TGIF Paddle at Alki Kayak Tours, West Seattle (rental kayaks available)

Description: We will paddle on the West Seattle side of Elliott Bay, from Seacrest Boathouse.  The destination will depend upon the wind conditions.  If it is not windy, we will paddle around to Alki Point and back (total distance 6 nautical miles).

Sign-up Requirements:

Paddlers should be at least novice paddlers.  The water is very cold, wind and waves can kick up on Elliott Bay, and there are boat and ferry wakes.  This not a paddle for beginner paddlers.

Immersion gear (wetsuit or drysuit) is recommended but not mandatory for intermediate or advanced paddlers, it is mandatory for novice paddlers (drysuits and wetsuits are available for rental with the rental kayaks at Alki Kayak Tours). 

Rental Kayaks:

This is not a guided tour, but rental kayaks (singles, tandems and a triple) are available from Alki Kayak Tours, [masked] or [masked]).

5:30 p.m. - arrive and off-load at Seacrest Boathouse, and park on the street.

6:00 p.m. - launch and paddle.

~ 8:30 p.m. - return to Seacrest Boathouse.

~ 8:45 p.m. - bite (or dinner) and beverage at Ma Kai Marination restaurant at Seacrest Boathouse (food served until 9 p.m., drinks until 9:30)..

Weather Contingencies:

Rain: We will paddle in the rain, just wear raingear.

Wind: We will paddle if the wind conditions are safe, up to about 15 knots.

Sun: We will paddle if there's sun . Just wear sunglasses and tanning oil. :)-

Equipment Requirements:

Kayak owners: Kayak, paddle, pfd, paddlefloat, pump, sprayskirt, immersion gear recommended.

Kayak renters: Kayaking clothes and shoes that can get wet, immersion gear.

    Thanks all. Exciting place to paddle, we'll do more here. Sets up well at this location, with a nice in-shore paddle and good food and beer right there afterward. Definite high point ... in addition to y'all being fun to paddle with ... was the freighter wake that came though the tide rip just inside Alki Point, opposing the eddy current = set of chest-high waves, woo hoo!!!

    I contacted Alki Kayak Tours and they said they don't take advance reservations but should have plenty of kayaks for us. I mentioned this meetup group and they said they were unaware of the event. Am I missing something?
