Description: We will meet in Monroe and load the kayaks up for a short drive just past Gold bar where we will launch at the park just over the Skykomish River. We will meet at the take out at 9 am and leave by 9:15 to go up to Big Eddy.
Details: This is an 18 mile paddle, but it is down river and should only take around 6 hours of easy paddling. We will break for lunch at Sportman's Park in Sultan and then continue down to Monroe to the cars. It will be a short drive back up to Gold bar to retrieve the other cars. This paddle is rated Class II because of a few short rapids and the chance of some jams or sweepers. We will proceed slowly and portage around any problems we encounter. I believe it will be a very benign paddle with a few exciting parts.
You can find the descriptions of these paddles in Paddling Washington. onine
Parking/Restroom Information: .... There is restroom availability at the launch, lunch stop, and the take out. You will need a pass to park at Big Eddy and at the take out in Monroe.
SK Rating: Sea Kayak Trip Ratings I am rating this a class 2-3 paddle. There will be some short rapids that we should be able to portage around if necessary but this late I don't think the river will be very fast.
Equipment Requirements: Kayak, paddle, pfd, paddlefloat, pump, sprayskirt, headlamp, charts, navigation gear (compass/gps/??)vhf radio (edit as needed). Bring a nice lunch and plenty of water for the trip down the river.
IMPORTANT - If you have not filled out your profile information in the Sea Kayak Meetup information please do so. We need this to be assured that the group is competent to meet the challenges of this paddle. For safety reasons we will not accept anyone whose profile information does not assure us that they have the necessary skills. Failure to have a completely filled out profile can cause you to be dropped from the paddle.
AND AS USUAL - All my paddles are one strike you're out... I will monitor the site up to 3 hours before we launch for cancellations. (for this paddle the cut off will be Wednesday before the paddle unless an emergency happens) But if we launch and I haven't heard from you that is a no show and you will no longer be welcome on my trips. Please don't sign up unless you really think you can attend. It isn't fair for the other paddlers. As usual, I will manage the trip numbers based on extra organizers and the paddle experience of the people who sign up. So jump on the waiting list because I frequently up the attendees. Thanks.
