2577 West Sequim Bay Road, Sequim, WA
Description: We are going to paddle from Sequim Bay to Protection Island, circumnavigate Protection Island, then paddle to a take-out in Discovery Bay. Protection Island is one of the premier wildlife viewing locations in Puget Sound; it is estimated that three-quarters of the sea-birds in Puget Sound nest on Protection Island.
Overnight Accommodations: This is the third of three associated Labor Day weekend day-paddles. Assuming interest expressed in Day 1 or 2 signups for stay-over accommodations, we may obtain a shared vacation rental house in the Port Townsend/Port Ludlow area.
This is a 14 nautical mile paddle that will be subject to wind, current effects, tide rips, large ship wakes, and ocean swell, all in exposed open water.
To sign up for this paddle, you need to be an intermediate or advanced paddler, you must have bracing, re-entry, and rescue training, skills and practice, and you must be able to paddle at a sustained 3 knots pace. The required kayaking experience and skills need to be documented in your meetup-profile information and your answers to the sign-up questions.
Wait List and Add-ons: If the paddle RSVP is full, sign up for the wait-list. The paddle size may be increased with add-ons from the wait-list; add-on priority may be given to those staying over and doing multiple paddles.
