Olympia Harbor Festival ("Tugboat Days")

Description:  We are going to paddle from Boston Harbor Marina down the west shore of Budd Inlet to Percival Landing in downtown Olympia, beach and lock up our kayaks, spend two or three hours partying at the Olympia Harbor Festival, then paddle up the east shore of Budd Inlet back to Boston Harbor Marina.

Sign-up Requirements:

This is a 12 nautical mile paddle that may be subject to wind waves.  The paddle will be with the current both ways.

To sign up for this paddle, you need to be an intermediate or advanced paddler, you must have bracing, re-entry, and rescue training, skills and practice, and you must be able to paddle at a sustained 3 knots pace.  The required kayaking experience and skills need to be documented in your meetup-profile information and your answers to the sign-up questions.

Schedule and Itinerary:

9:30 a.m. - meet at Boston Harbor Marina.

10:00 a.m - Launch and paddle 6 n.m. to Olympia.

~12:00 noon - arrive at Percival Landing, beach and lock up our kayaks, and party down at the Olympia Harbor Festival 

~ 3:00 p.m. - head back 6 n.m. to Boston Harbor Marina.

~ 5:00 p.m. - arrive back at Boston Harbor Marina

Carpooling and Details

Carpooling is encouraged.  After there is some sign-up, carpooling locations will be suggested and sign-up-ees can arrange carpooling amongst themselves.

Conditions and Contingency:

This paddle is contingent upon reasonably safe wind and weather conditions. If the predicted weather conditions are unsafe for this paddle, the paddle will be revised to a protected paddle.

Equipment Requirements:

Kayak, paddle, pfd, paddlefloat, pump, sprayskirt, sunglasses, sunscreen, water and snacks, VHF radio if you have one, bicycle lock-up cable and lock if you have one, immersion gear.

Immersion Gear:

Wearing immersion gear (drysuit or wetsuit) is mandatory for this paddle.

      Yep, Donna was there, and a delight as always. And ... Donna and Jenn were quite the dynamic duo, as one would expect. I skipped the Blues Sisters dancing to the jazz band photos, as that ain't kayaking. :)-

      14.1 nautical miles. Seemed like less. Paddles with an urban-adventure in the middle are a hoot; expect more of those. :) Also, Boston Harbor Marina is nice launch spot, with good-quality rental kayaks available.
