Paddle to Kirkland and listen to the Christmas Ships

Let's paddle down to the Kirkland beach park and watch the Christmas ships take off on their early Saturday sailing. I will post more details as we get closer. Make sure you get their early enough to make the 1.5 mile paddle down to Kirkland so we can listen to the concert which begins at 3:40. The 6 or so of us that actually made it down to the concert two years ago year had a great time floating between the crowd on shore and the big concert ship. We need to get more boats down there in time this year.

This paddle should take about 45 minutes to get down to the park, 30 minutes to listen to the concert, and then a leisurely paddle back up to the park.If we launch by 2:45 we should be able to get down and listen to the concert fine. We should be back before 5pm but you should bring a headlight.

And get some battery operated xmas lights for you kayak so we can be a great sight on the way back. You can use them for Saul's caroling paddle.....

You need to have your own kayak and all necessary immersion gear. If the weather is windy please check this site for updates.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21
FIRST SAILING
CHOIR: Dickens Carolers
Performances: 3:40-4:00 Kirkland Marina Park*, 4:40-5:00 Madison Park*
Christmas Ship Departs: Kirkland City Marina

But I think I'll drive over to watch from the beach. Anyone else thinking the same?

I see sunlight, believe it or not, from the launch.

Hey guys, I'm really bummed but without a roof rack, I can't rent a kayak and take it offsite. I guess I will have to change my RSVP. I hope you guys have fun, I wish I could be there!

It looks like Cascade Canoe and Kayak (in Redmond) is still renting out kayaks at their retail location. The only thing is you have to have a roof rack in order to take the kayak off site. I (unfortunately) do not have one, so I might not be able to go. I hope this info helps people who do have a roof rack but do not own kayaks. Have fun!

Does anyone have any recommendations for nearby kayak rental? I learned that Woodland Hotel's kayak rentals are seasonal, and I think that the last kayak rental place I went through (Cascade Canoe and Kayak) is closed now. Bumming out!

I reserved a spot, but I have my own boat. I am hoping they are not saving a boat for me. If so, you can take my spot.

Thanks for the info, guys! I will check on my phone and this messageboard for updates from the rental place/ meetup members.

I am going to skip out tomorrow. I have been getting a stuffy head for a couple days. Unfortunately I don't think a paddle will help. Have fun!

Lana - Yes, Cascade Canoe and Kayak is still in business but I'm not sure if their rental facility is open yet. Perhaps someone in this group has spare boat (?)
