Packing your Kayak for an overnight trip..

  • Jul 16, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • Packing the Kayak

I recently had an opportunity to paddle my wind cocking kayak downwind with a following sea, What a treat it was to have a couple of dry bags and some other stuff on the rear of my kayak to help the wind push me around. Apparently I need a refresher course on packing my kayak. So when I returned I put my kayak out on the driveway with all my stuff and did some repacking to figure out how to not let that happen again. While I was going through this exercise it occurred to me it might be nice to setup a Meet up to go over what to carry and how.

I would be interested in leading a group through this if there is enough interest. I will bring my boat (skegged) and another boat with a rudder along with all my gear and extra stuff so we can see where stuff goes and how to best stow it. I will also discuss water and have a couple of packing lists available to hand out. I will have the meetup at a nice place where we can spread out and have some thing to eat while going over the stuff.

I will do this first one and if we get enough demand will do another at a different location and time.

Sue has graciously loaned us her place for the evening so we will meet in in her back yard. She will have the BBQ going if you want to cook something or just bring a salad or sandwich for yourself. Also bring a beverage of your choice. Sue has benches and a nice picnic table but feel free to bring a folding chair for your comfort.

The work monster has trapped me as well. Sorry to miss this.

Sorry I am going to miss the meetup, but work is going to keep me late.

Sorry to ask this so late, but is it ok to bring my dog? I can tie her up in the back yard, but I wouldn't be able to leave her in the car.

Yes you can bring your dog as long as you scoop the poop ;-)

Funny, I just (literally two minutes ago) grabbed a couple of bags to put in the car!

Sorry, but I am going to cancel as I am coming from the Eastside and I90 will be down to one lane all next week. I don't want to deal with traffic. Larry, I hope you can schedule one on the Eastside next time.

It's a great idea. Perhaps a little more notice? Looks like an awesome trip you had with lots of sunshine over the 4th.

I only have a few days in July available. I will see how this one goes and maybe schedule another in August if there is interest.

Hi. I think the main thing when deciding on a park to do this at, is parking. If you need any help we could do a quick chat. Thanks
