Once again, a group of us are leading the swim safety effort for the Triathlon, the name in the past was Danskin and then Trek, now it is Athleta Iron Girl, same geat people putting it on.
I will need about 35 volunteers to cover the swim portion of the course. I can provide kayaks and equipment for about 30 of our volunteers. We function as encouragement and rest platforms for the swimmers, many of whom are doing their first triathlon.
We typically meet at the swim start at Stan Sayres pits across from Genessee Park (north of Seward Park) on Lake Washington at 5:45-6am, spend 20 minutes going over what each of us needs to do and then support the race for about 3-4 hours. We are primarily responsible for monitoring the edges of the course, chasing down wayward swimmers that think a loop of Mercer Island is part of the course ;-) and providing a rest bouy (our boat) to tired swimmers. We also provide encouragement as well as transport some swimmers back to shore when requested. Danskin has divers and medical professionals on several larger boats that handle a bigger emergency. The exact details will be sent to you as city permit requirements get flowed down to the schedule. So come join us and help out, in addition to feeling good about your contribution, you'll meet some great people, have some coffee and bagels and even get a volunteer T shirt.

It's a good idea to sign up on their site so that you get a parking pass, volunteer T shirt and all the cool stuff they hand out, you can also save driving and carpool in with me.
I will do the Saul morning bus route to pick people up on my way, so it may not be a big deal.
Signing up on the Athleta site makes parking permits, food, coffee and T shirts much easier. Please make sure you get signed up on the Athleta site, that way you get your T shirt, your parking pass and your breakfast food ;-)
www.irongirl.com/Events/Seattle/Volunteer Parking permits are being sent to those of you that registered on the Athleta site, others should carpool with me.
