I got my boat 3 years ago and began at the beginning. Made all the mistakes one could make. But fell in love with the water and learning to paddle. I took lessons through Bob Burnett, began with rescues, rolling, surf zone techniques. Got time in Lake Washington with Tuesday night practice at Concrete Beach, and more time in Puget Sound - Des Moines to Commencement Bay, Elliot Bay, Orcas Island internal bays - Ship Bay to Judd Bay. My first year I finished up the year planning and camping on Sucia with paddles to Patos. Last year Sunshine Coast, Cape Flagherty and others.
It is all great!
I know how to do a wet exit, self rescue, assisted rescue, low brace, high brace, finally accomplished a balance brace an inconsistent sweep roll and numerous paddling techniques. What level am I? I would say I am in the Intermediate range.
Puget Sound and more.
This is such a rich activity of nature, skill, strength, community and beauty that it amazes me that I didn't embrace it before. Let's paddle!
