Really basic kayak safety skills training - Reminders and overview

From: Saul_K

the Organizers had some training and refresher work in Lake Sammamish last night (thank you Bob), looking at how long certain skills take to teach, learn and practice, I want to be realistic about what we will accomplish the next few weekends.

We will focus primarily on critical safety skills. People die Sea Kayaking every year, we want you to know how to keep yourselves alive.

What we will cover:
Wet Exit - how you get out of your kayak safely after a capsize
How to assist someone else with exiting

Self rescue
Assisted rescue

If we have time we will review some paddling techniques, my guess is that we will not have time.

Dress for immersion, the water was cold enough last night that I felt like i was getting Slurpee brain freeze after being the class rescue dummy for a while.
anyone who doesn't appear properly dressed for immersion will either be sent home or will watch from the beach.

See you soon - Saul
