Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group!

What: Paddle the Ballard Locks and picnic at Golden Gardens (B.Y.O.K.)

When: Saturday, August 21,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Ballard boat launch
[masked]th avenue NW
Ballard, WA 98107

Hi Everyone,

Here is a local trip I've wanted to do for some time. We'll be launching from the 14th Ave boat ramp in Ballard and heading towards the locks. This is supposed to be pretty interesting as we will be hanging on to the cleats on the wall of the smaller lock as the water level goes down. I've always viewed this from above so it will be a new experience to see it from a new perspective. Once through, we'll paddle down to the sound and round to golden gardens. If the weather doesn't comply, we can always cut through the Shilshole marina and avoid any choppy conditions. Once we get to Golden Gardens we'll land on the beach and have a picnic lunch (please bring your own, as Kevin will not be there with his 5 stoves cooking up a gourmet meal).
By the time we go on this trip, Lara will have already scoped it out so we'll know how to handle the locks...

What you need:
Your own kayak and gear. This includes all safety gear you would take on a trip on the Puget Sound, including PFD, spray skirt, paddle float, etc.
Have previously demonstrated that you can do a self rescue.
Can paddle vigorously since we will be encountering a current as we paddle back up to the locks. Seriously.
Please be in good physical shape and be able to keep up with the group.
The ability to stay together as a group and follow directions.

Please note, this is not a guided tour and participants should be responsible for themselves.

See you there!
