New Meetup: Thanksgiving day Leisure paddle along the Sammamish "Slough"

Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group!

What: Thanksgiving day Leisure paddle along the Sammamish "Slough"

When: Saturday, November 27,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Luke McRedmond Landing
15811 Redmond Way
Redmond, WA 98052

We will launch at Luke McRedmond Park in downtown Redmond and paddle what is called the Sammamish Slough/River. The slough is a 14 miles small river that goes from Lake Sammamish to Kenmore/Lake Washington.

The Sammamish River is home to several runs of salmon and trout, including chinook, coho, sockeye, kokanee, steelhead, and cutthroat trout. The King County government is currently working on restoring fish habitat along the river. Several species of birds and mammals are plentiful along the river, including waterfowl such as Canada geese, ducks, and the Great Blue Heron. Bald eagles and beavers are also common sights near the river.

We are planning on paddling from Luke McRedmond Park to Kenmore. We will do a lunch stop in Woodinville. Afterward, we will go to my house for the party and bbq.

Here is an article describing the paddle: http://www.seattlepi.com/getaways/263769_paddle23.html?source=rss

NO RENTAL on site - I have loaner kayaks for about 14 people (some of the tandems are a bit too long for manuavering on this route, say "Need to Borrow" or "Have my own gear" in your RSVP. I will only bring kayaks for yes RSVP's, if you don't show then I have to tow the empty kayak, so don't sign up and bail.

The water is getting colder, so while it is not a very exposed paddle, wetsuits or drysuits are a good idea.

We will be finishing in time for the party at my house. I will want someone to be willing to show up an hour early to watch gear so that I can move the trailer back to Kenmore after dropping off boats and equipment.
