Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group!
What: San Juans trip Sept 13,14 - Begginners are OK
When: September 13,[masked]:30 AM
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Meetup Description: I will be leading a San Juans overnight kayak camping trip
I haven't decided the exact route, but we will take a ferry to either Friday Harbor or to Orcas, I will finalize the route by Wednesday. This is one of the more suitable for begginers paddles that I put together but I still prefer that you take some of Bob's Tuesday night training sessions prior to the trip. I will hold the number of sign ups down to make sure that I get an appropriate skill mix, so if it's full and you want to go, RSVP. We will catch either the 8:45 ferry to Friday Harbor or the 10:05am ferry to Orcas.
We will either be paddling from Friday Harbor to Turn Island.
or we will be paddling from Olga to Doe Island
If the event is full, RSVP no and say that you want to go and say if you need a boat. It is a pretty sheltered paddle and you can stay within 100 feet of shore if you'd like.
If we go to Orcas, I plan on bringing a bicycle and doing some riding as well.
The following trip is rated SK1+/SK2, see descriptions at this link: http://students.washington.edu/ukc/seakayaking/sea_rating.php
I would like someone to carpool with me and share driving as I will be flying into SeaTac at 7pm the night before, going to my 30th reunion and after getting the kayaks ready, won't get much sleep.
We will return to Anacortes on a ferry at about 4 or 5pm.
Who is borrowing which boats
Saul - Orange Necky
I will bring a group cook kit with two large 5qt plus sized kettles as well
as a frying pan, spatula, etc.
I will bring one stove, several others of you
said you could bring one as well, so bring it - thanks.
What to bring:
A sense of humor and plenty of energy
The stuff for the meal you're making for the group
Wetsuits or Drysuits - I have a few to loan, let me know if you need one.
Water in a container - The islands we will camp on island don't have any fresh water
TP - the island has an outhouse, sometimes it runs out.
Dishes and utensils to eat and drink with
Drysacks for your stuff, especially for your clothes and sleeping bag - I
have a few to loan let me know if you need one.
Typical camping stuff - Tent, pad, sleeping bag, toiletries, several changes
Meals need a vegetarian option - this trip while we have a few vegetarians
we don't have any vegans, so eggs, milk and cheese are acceptable.
Thanks - Saul
