2012 was a good year in all of our groups, I'm looking forward to 2013.
As some of you probably noticed, I started to do a cleaner split of activities in each of my three main meetup groups to make it easier for people to find the activities that appeal to them without getting buried under other events. It also makes it easier for me to manage loaner gear (tents, bags, kayaks, etc. ) when I'm only posting in one group at a time.

Get up and Get Out - this is sort of a catch all group for anything that gets you off the couch, I tend to post Snow Shoes, hikes, some bike rides, some beginner kayaking, other organizers in the group lean more towards social events(art walks, parties and more) and we keep the schedule pretty full. http://www.meetup.com/adventurers-96

Seattle Sea Kayaking - this group we use for mostly  kayaking trips, general paddling and skills development. During the winter we have had a few pool sessions for practicing self rescue and rolls, we have also had a kayak navigation series the Dennis is teaching, and Bob continues to conduct a lot of one the water courses as time allows. This is the group that I post most of the kayak camping trips in, that way I can more easily manage skill levels, one of my requirements on the open water trips is a demonstrated self rescue, it doesn't have to be really pretty like a roll, but you do have to be able to get yourself back in the kayak without assistance. The reason why I insist on this in advance is because if we wait until someone makes a mistake and has a problem, it could be too late to teach them, so we do the teaching before the trips. It's important to me that everyone enjoy our trips and come back safely.http://www.meetup.com/Seattle-Sea-Kayaking/

Human Powered World Touring - This group mostly focuses on hiking and biking trips outside the Seattle area, with multi day trips to places like Catalina Island in Southern California, Blacks Canyon in Nevada, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Bike touring in many places, including trips like last years tour throughGermany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia, while this coming year will probably have rides in Northern Spain (Camino Santiago) and in NE Europe (Iron Curtain trail) as well as Napa Valley. I am also planning to do a backpacking trip in Borneo. If any of these trips interest you, send me an email and I'll try to work you into the planning phase.http://www.meetup.com/HumanPoweredWorldTouringSanDiegoSeattle/

As usual, my work travel schedule is starting to crank up so I will be leaning on our assistant organizers to post more fun and safe events. I will post a few more short snow shoe hikes before I leave the country in a few weeks..

As always, Safety is dependeent on the conditions and on your skills and fitness, our organizers aren't guides, they are volunteers, know what you're capable of and make sure you're ready before you go the next level.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you outdoors again soon.
