What: 08-21 Eight day Canoe Trip in Montana during late August 2009 with Doug Stevens

Join Doug Stevens one of our group members for an eight day Canoe Trip in Montana during
late August 2009.
You will spend eight days canoeing the 149 mile Wild & Scenic
Upper Missouri River and The Missouri River Breaks National
Monument during late August 2009.
Dates: 8/21 (Friday): Drive from Seattle to Fort Benton, MT.
Tent overnight at an RV park at Fort Benton.
8/22 (Saturday) to 8/29 (Saturday): Canoe from Fort Benton to James
Kipp, MT. The night of 8/29 we will tent at an RV park at Fort
8/30 (Sunday): Drive from Montana to Seattle
Cost: $450 (approximately). Includes renting six canoes,
shuttle service, gas and food cost and two nights
accommodations (Tent camping at an RV park).
All cost and responsibilities will be shared. We will plan the
trip as a team to include who will drive, what to pack, and
what food to bring. Up to 12 people will go on the trip.
Hiking opportunities exist along the river.
The canoe trip requires no experience as it not white water.
You should have a good attitude and be in reasonable shape.
Steven Ambrose in his book Undaunted Courage provides the
following description of the 149 mile canoe trip, which he has
completed 10 times: "It is today as Lewis saw it. The White
Cliffs can be seen only from a small boat or canoe. Of all the
historic and/or scenic sights we have visited in the world this
is number one."
