Dealing with SPAM - the spammer was removed within minutes of posting to
this group (thank you Robert for doing that) (I think she is still a
member under another alias), I removed her from another group I manage as
well. She posted to a large number of groups across the entire West Coast.
Sending what is in essence a "Reply All" to the group doesn't really help
much. If you get unwlecome messages, forward them to me, or call me and
I'll deal with it.
Good afternoon and welcome to the Seattle Sea Kayaking Goup to the
approximately 100 new members that have joined in the last 6 weeks.
We are a bunch of Sea Kayaking Addicts and afficionados who love our time
on the water. All of our organizers do this for their love of the sport,
with only a few of them having any kayak related business activities, They
all put in a lot of effort to make this group the fun and safe place to
learn and play that it has become, so thank them when you meet them.
We have events, typically multiple times per week, and I have quite a few
kayaks that I make available for loan to group members at our events. So
if you don't have your own kayak you can still join us by stating "need to
borrow" in your RSVP. Just make sure you show up, as dealing with empty
boats is a major pain and keeps other people who are on a waiting list
from being able to join us. If you're on the waiting list and I decide I
have enough kayaks, I'll move you to MAYBE, where you can move yourself to
YES. If you stay at MAYBE, then you're welcome to show up, but I probably
won't load a kayak for you.
To help everyone in their quest to become more competetent paddlers, we
have a variety of skills sessions, some are part of paddles and some are
separate, we can also point you to excellent instruction offered locally
by some of our group members and others.
We still have additional kayak navigation sessions scheduled and I will
add as many paddles as I can support. We have more San Juans trips, some
are suitable for begginers, others require experience and self rescue
demonstrations, the requirements are typically defined in the event title
(begginers OK or Experience Required).
Tonights paddle, we will spend some time on bracing and directional
control as I noticed both were an issue during our last two windy paddles.
The best safety equipment out there is your mind, your awareness and your
skills, the more you develop them, the more you'll be able to enjoy the
See you on the water soon - Saul
