Remember, the organizers are volunteers, they aren?t paid for this. The organizers also aren?t professional guides, medical technicians or your mother, they expect and need you to be responsible for yourself. They volunteer their time to Organize because they love the outdoors, they love to share knowledge with others, and because they enjoy the social aspects, let?s keep things fun.
Things that make your organizers lives easier:
Be prepared and be on time, it?s tough to manage the group, addressing safety and overall plans, when people are filtering in late.
Update your RSVP to show your intentions and then follow through, If you don?t RSVP and then show up anyway, no one will be looking for you at the start and you might miss them, if you RSVP yes and don?t show, then it?s a hassle as far as breaking the group into teams or distributing equipment. If you change your RSVP from Yes to No, please don?t select the remove my RSVP entirely option as that makes it challenging to those of us that cross post events and bring loaner equipment to figure out, did the person pull out of the event or did I somehow miss them, as much as I hate dragging empty kayaks, bicycles, ski?s or snowshoes behind me for a no show, I really hate to forget gear for someone that shows up.
When you email an organizer, if you select the ?keep my email address private option?, you?re sending spam and don?t expect an answer. Meetup does not allow replies to these messages so we either have to log into Meetup and click on your picture and send a message or we have to ignore or delete your message, I usually delete as logging in from my cell phone takes too long and I figure that if it?s important you?ll phone me or send a conventional email.
Does it matter, yes, we have lost a few of our best Organizers when we either didn?t update our RSVP?s and didn?t show up or otherwise made things a royal pain in the butt for them.
We all look forward to having you join us on one of our upcoming events, thanks for keeping things fun - Saul
