Today, we will begin the new year by exploring a hidden walking route to Seward Park from Link. We will begin by taking Link to Columbia City Station, then walk a mixture of sidewalk and staircases over to Lake Washington Blvd. and Seward Park. We will then do a 2-mile loop exploring some of the forested trails within the park, then walk back to Columbia City Station for the trip home. If we have good weather, I may consider extending the trip another couple miles or so to catch Link at Mt. Baker Station, one stop over to the north.
For those that need to bail out early (or if the weather is particularly bad), it is also possible to end the hike directly at Seward Park by taking the #50 bus from the park to Columbia City Station.
We will meet at the Westlake Tunnel Station Wednesday afternoon with the goal of hopping on the first southbound Link train that goes by after 12:30. Look for me on the tunnel platform right where you wait to get on the train. If you don't have an Orca card, please allow a few extra minutes to purchase a ticket from the machines at the Mezzanine before joining the group. Trains in both directions run every 10 minutes.
Overall, the hike should be about 6-7 miles and take about 2-3 hours.
