So for oyster harvesting we'll need: Some buckets! Some oyster knives, if you've got one bring it. A couple of strong butter knives or even a small pry bar to get them off the rocks. You'll want some water shoes like aqua socks (they're like $20) or at least some Chacos.
I just checked the tides for this day and realized that the low for the day is at 6:30pm. I think that probably means I should move the oyster gathering to the day previous and we should go around 3pm on Saturday, get back around 8 or 9.
This is something I've wanted to learn to do for a long time.
I can go the following dates Mar 26, Apr. 2,10,16, 23 and 24
Please try to arrange it on one of these dates Thank you, Thank you
Kiliii Thank you very much for arranging this group, I have been looking for somthing like this for a long time.
Great Dorothy! I moved the date around a bit to coincide with the potluck-- I'll be gone the April 2nd weekend too.
Okay I'll have to cancel out on another group. how are we meeting up do we want to carpool or meet there and where is there any thing we need
I think a carpool sounds like an excellent idea. My street has lots of free parking, I'll add the address.

Sorry, with the date change I can't go, I have to be in Monroe that day. I was really looking forward to this as it was something I really, really wanted to learn to do ffor years by could find someone to teach me. But I just can,t cancel Monroe.
Dorothy, the wild foods potluck is still sunday evening, hopefully we'll see you there. Blessings.
As filter feeders, should we be worried about red-tides causing toxic buildup in oysters in the pacific NW? We had to be really careful on the gulf and atlantic coasts to avoid harvesting oysters with red-tide toxin. As far as I'm aware, there is no antidote. I think we should be okay with limpets though, since they don't filter feed.
Scott, oysters are subject to red tides but they only occur in summer and oysters purge the toxins relatively quickly. I checked the WA biotoxin page for the most recent update and it's clear. Only butter and purple varnish clams hold the toxins long enough to worry about in winter.
Kiliii Yu do you think you will be planning another oyster gathering in th near future. Don't know if I'll make the potluck. I don't gather from the wilderness as I don't know what you can eat and what you can't that is why I wanted to join your group.
Hello there! How are we doing carpools for Saturday?
Hi kim, looks lie there's five people going at the moment so i think one ought to do it. If we need mre i'm sure someome will volunteer at our rendezvous spot.
@Dorothy, yes I think I'd like to go again, also depends on hwo it goes this time of course.
Kilii--do we need to bring (if we already have one) or purchase a shellfish/seaweed license to partake in this activity?
Yes I totally forgot about posting this... A shellfish license is recommended, WA sells 3 the annual license for $12, not too bad. You can get them online now too at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/![]()
Folks, I shifted the time up an hour because I'm seeing the weather is gonna give us very little light and I anticipate people being a little late at rendezvous. So let's try to meet at 3pm.
Will the event have to be rescheduled due to the Tsunami advisory that went into effect this morning?
Nope, just checked the warning, doesn't affect hoodcanal or the sound.
