So, this month, the Seattle Daylight Writer's Group will celebrate its one year anniversary. As you can imagine, I am tickled pink about this.
I started this group out of entirely selfish motivations. I wanted scheduled time to sit and write. I couldn't often make evening meet-ups, so wanted to meet in the day. I only wanted to meet in coffee shops that could make a decent cappuccino. I wanted the other people that showed up to be deeply interested in writing, yet magically also able to keep to themselves for 45 magical minutes.
Imagine my surprise when people showed up. And kept showing up. And I even liked them. A lot! And they were good writers. Great writers!
I've felt it only fair since this group was really only all for me for a year (though you may have thought it was also for you - how cute!), that I cover all website costs. I've come to realize I don't have sole ownership anymore. Great people have built on the little thing I started and turned it into something much more. Again, tickled pink.
Since it's not just mine anymore, you get to pay for it too. (Your turn to be tickled pink!)
So, I've added a $5 annual membership fee. This will go to paying our site fees. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS IF YOU DON"T WANT TO.
Crazy, I know. But, honestly, even if no one contributes, I'll keep covering the costs because I like it so much. However, if you like it to, go ahead and pay $5. Pay more if you want. But if you can't spare a single dollar right now, no worries. I've been there. Really, I couldn't even spare a dollar. So, no one will get kicked out for not paying dues as long as I am still the Empress of Inky Black Pens. And, hey, if you can spare $10, that would be cool.
If we buy in advance, 3 months on meetup is just $45. $72 if we pay for the whole year in advance. I'm sure enough people will kick in some bucks to cover at least part of the subscription. Visit our site to pay. I'm sure there's a link.
So, thanks to everyone who's ever shown up, and thanks in advance to the people that pay the bucks to keep us all going in the best writers group ever.
