Upcoming Events: Startup Weekend GOV

Hi R folks!

Your organizer Zach said it was cool to post this event announcement here.

I'd like to invite you to come shaRpen your programming teeth on open government data sets like http://data.seattle.g..., and at the first-ever Startup Weekend GOV. Spend a weekend building apps that use open data (or simply improve the lives of Washington residents in some way) at City Hall and hack alongside the Mayor, WA State CIO Bharat Shyam, Seattle CIO Bill Schrier, and a myriad of other government officials and devs.

Startup Weekend GOV is April 27-29 at City Hall. Seattle Channel will be on site filming a TV special about the event and we'll be setting the bar for all future GOV events across the country. Tickets are available at http://seattlegov.sta... and include swag and all food, snacks, and drinks for the weekend. These events always sell out, so I suggest signing up quickly.

There's also a FREE event this Thursday the 19th from 6-9pm at City Hall where you can learn more about interacting with the Google and Socrata [which powers all these open data sets] APIs. Light refreshments and snacks will be served. Grab a spot for this free event here: http://seattlegovswgt...
(Fun fact: Justin, who is running the ice breaker for this event, is an R programmer too. And probably reading this. Hi, Justin!) You don't have to sign up for the weekend in order to come to this event.

Any questions, feel free to email me at marina (at)
