EFNW Staff Appreciation Party at SR's

  • This location is shown only to members

Hello Everypony!

I'd like to thank everypony who has been working hard to make Everfree Northwest a success! Hey, you know what this calls for? A party!

Format will be much the same as previous parties I've thrown with the exception that in order to attend this party, you must have been on staff at EFNW 2013. (Note, I think they're still recruiting some staff, if you're interested in getting in on this deal, eh!)

For those of y'all who have never been to one of my parties: This'll be pretty free-form and loose. Party starts at Party Standard Time (ie. show up when you can, after about noon-ish) and lasts as long as y'all want to stay. Activities will depend on what attendees want to do, but possibilities include:

* "Bronies" documentary viewing
* Hot tub

* Pool
* Trotmania (or other DDR)
* Pony-themed Rock Band
* My Little Karaoke
* Board Games
* Card games anypony wants to run on their own.
* Watching MLP episodes or parodies
* Just hanging around and chatting / drawing / playing music
* Campfire with s'mores (weather permitting)

Sodas, hamburgers, hot-dogs, sausages, various other grilled meats and non-meats and some snacking foods will be provided. If you have special dietary requirements or preferences, please let me know! It would be great if attendees could bring a side dish, main dish, dessert, or snack of some kind, though this isn't required of course.

I doubt we'll get this many EFNW staffers, but in case we do, I'm sorry to say I must set the attendee limit for my party to 50. Things just get a little too crowded beyond that number, eh. Please RSVP early if you will be on EFNW 2013 staff and want to come, and please un-RSVP yourself if you later discover you can't come or ended up not being on staff (so we free up slots for those on the waiting list, if there ends up being one).

IMPORTANT FORMAT CHANGES/NOTES:
* Standard social gathering etiquette applies. If you have a problem with body or foot odor, please make sure to bathe, use deodorant and wear fresh clean clothing before coming to the party. And please keep your shoes on! With so many bodies in one place in the middle of the summer, let's try to keep the smells tolerable, eh. ;)

* The 3:00am curfew for the hot tub worked well last time, so let's do that again: Nopony in the hot tub after 3:00am (and be quiet outside after dark, eh.)

* A LOT more bronies stayed overnight last time than I expected. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just want to make sure there's enough sleeping space for everypony. So if you plan on staying overnight, please let me know here! I'm guessing that no more than 20 would be able to sleep on the floor space I have, so let's try to keep it at that number, and priority will be given to those who have to travel longer distances and/or are relying on public transit. (The bus service near my house is distant and infrequent, unfortunately.) Also, for those who can, plan on bringing some bedding, as I only have so many sleeping bags and blankets. Also note that I've picked up an additional house-mate, so the former guest bedroom is no longer available for sleeping.

* Bronies of all ages are welcome, though I would ask under-age bronies to have a parent or guardian present and to contact me before the party. Alcohol will almost certainly be present at the party. (And those not of legal age are of course required not to partake!)

* Those who do drink are expected to do so responsibly and maintain good behavior (though this hasn't been a problem in the past, for those of you just joining us).

* Although I am pleased that Washington has passed much saner laws with regard to the use of marijuana by responsible adults, please do not bring any *ahem* wacky weed to the party.

UPDATE[masked]:  Feel free to bring your significant other along to the party even if they weren't on staff.  Please RSVP for both of you so we keep our head count accurate, eh.

    Very very fun. SR, you throw an awesome bash! Thanks muchly!

    July 29, 2013

  • SR F.

    I'm glad y'all enjoyed yourselves! I had a blast, too! (And no complaints from the neighbors or house mates either! Woo-hoo!) Also, I really want to thank Commissar for coming out early to help set up, and the crew who really helped out cleaning up on Sunday morning. You'd hardly guess there were a ton of people here just last night. XD

    Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next one, eh!

  • Jonathan S.

    These meetups certainly get derailed easily with all the con talk, but I might be willing to let it go in this case. I'll be looking forward to more of it in the future!

  • Crystal L.

    riveting time ol' chap. (excellent.)

    Well, I figured out what I was forgetting. My phone charger. Big white plug-in box, short black cord.

    That party was at least 20% cooler.

    Most fun I've have since EFNW...hmm...that doesn't say much, it's the second most fun I've had since EFNW 2012. THAT'S saying something.

    July 27, 2013

    Sorry all, I won't be able to make it after all. Please fill my spot with someone on the wait list, SR!

    July 27, 2013

  • Tales

    Anybody going back up to Everett tomorrow? Could use a ride home.. ^_^

    July 27, 2013

  • Andrew H.

    Sorry, I seem to be coming down with something from work and would hate to spread it around. It's also quite a distance off and I don't think I was able to get a ride. Please have fun then, I'm sure I'll see many of you later on!

    July 27, 2013

    • SR F.

      D'oh! Sorry to hear that, eh. For what it's worth, I'm just recovering from being sick for a week. Those attending are going to get to hear me cough a lot (though don't worry-- the doctor says I'm not contagious, eh.) Hope you feel better soon!

      July 27, 2013

  • SR F.

    Hey y'all! As I prep for the party this Saturday, it occurs to me that I could probably use some help Friday night with the final clean-up and decorating for the party. Is anypony willing to come out on Friday evening, help out with this (and spend the night if you wish)?

    July 22, 2013

    • Tyler (Missile J.

      I was going to post earlier but forgot, had to take my friend to the hospital, so I can't come help set up sorry SR but I will be there tomorrow

      July 26, 2013

    • SR F.

      No worries, eh-- Commissar show up and with him and Brian, we got the last of the prep work done. So, everything's all set for the party tomorrow!

      July 26, 2013

  • Cole D.

    Floor space would be much appreciated if there is still any available.

    Could someone pick me up from the Tacoma Dome at around five or six?

    July 18, 2013

  • Crystal L.

    ok so question for everyone. would you guys like me to bring my old gaming equipment (n64, super nintendo, and others) i have a bunch of old games and i figured i could add to the entertainment at least since i can't provide food XD

    July 26, 2013

    • SR F.

      Certainly doesn't hurt to bring them along-- but please don't be offended if they don't get used. (There's only one sizeable TV here, and it'll often be occupied by other games, karaoke, MLP episodes or parodies, etc.)

      In any case, don't feel bad about not bringing food, eh. There should be plenty, eh!

      July 26, 2013

    • Crystal L.

      i certainly wont be offended if they don't get used. i just want the option to be present if anyone is feeling nostalgic. :D

      July 26, 2013

  • SR F.

    Quick opinion poll: Along with the burgers, sandwich tray, veggie tray, etc. that I will be providing, would y'all rather have:

    A. Beer-boiled brats and sauerkraut

    or:

    B. 2 x Deep-fried turkeys

    or:

    C. A little of both. :)

    (A is pretty simple preparation: About a half hour to get things going in a crock pot, then serve it 5 hours later. B is more work: Preparation a few days in advance, plus I would need to closely supervise the boiling oil when the turkey itself is frying (20 minutes heat-up time + a half hour cooking time per bird).

    July 11, 2013

    • SR F.

      Ok-- I decided to go with C above, especially since the beer-broiled brats are so easy to make. So yes, there will be a deep-fried turkey, as well as the brats (as well as hamburgers, hot dogs, salmon burgers, and potentially vegetarian burgers)... as well as the snacking stuff, & etc.

      I'm really looking forward to this party, eh!

    In the interest of providing a seafood option, I can stop by Costco on the way down, and pick up a bag or two of a dozen salmon patties. Easy to cook, taste pretty good... Should I also pick up buns to match?

    I have a box of the MLP comics I'm looking to unload. If anyone is missing an issue, I have lots of regular covers available for $5. Here's a spreadsheet with what's available, feel free to claim beforehand (but make sure you're actually going to be there, please). I'll be bringing everything anyway, but if you want to reserve that's cool, comment below. Seriously, gotta get rid of these, but I paid for them so I can't give them away. Just giving a heads up if anyone is interested. All of these come bagged and boarded for no extra charge as well.

      That's why there's now a 3am curfew for the hot tub. Some people were in there all night, and the neighbors aren't really too keen on it.

    Regular/Plain
    Raspberry swirled
    Black Currant swirled
    Chocolate
    Chocolate Mint (sounds odd but quite yummy)
    Chocolate with Heath bits (this one went surprisingly fast for an experimental flavor)

      The upstairs actually stays pretty quiet, despite what's going on down below. I've had like 20-30 people up at 4am, been upstairs and not heard a thing. Very nice sound proofing thing going on somehow.

      July 12, 2013

    • Jonathan B.

      i think that witchcraft is the most likely cause for the good sound proofing.

    SR, If I'm able to make it, it would only be for an hour our so after 12 at the start. Should I relinquish my spot and possibly show up for that time anyways as it's likely all 50 won't be there at that point? I have a family gathering at 2pm up in Everett so I sadly won't be able to stay for the whole shindig.

    July 11, 2013

    • SR F.

      Hi Peter. Yep, that sounds like a good idea to me. There are usually only a handful of people there during the first couple hours (peak attendance usually happens between 5-7 in the evening), so I have no problem with your plan, eh. I hope you have fun at your family gathering, eh!

      No worries! Just, if you could let me know somehow beforehand, I'd hate to drive 4 hours for it and it's too crowded xD <3 (50 people IS a lot o.o)

      July 11, 2013

      SR's parties go all night. Quite literally.

      1 · July 11, 2013

    • SR F.

      Yep! The parties go as long as people want, though I will usually go to bed around 3:00am or so myself, and start shooing people out of my house around noon-ish the next day.

      As far as dishes to bring: I'll be providing grilled meats (and some grilled meat substitutes), as well as a few snack-type sides like a vegetable tray, chips and salsa, and small-ish sandwich-type fare. I also provide a lot of sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages. A lot of the "main course" type of stuff will be mostly consumed by 8 or 9 PM, and after that it's mostly snack food, desserts and/or booze that people are consuming.

      I typically don't supply the booze or desserts, so those are always good choices to bring. Also, if you have a favorite dish you like to make and/or bring to parties, feel free to do so, eh!

      1 · July 11, 2013

  • Blaine

    Ah, so only staff members can attend?

    July 8, 2013

    • SR F.

      ...which is unfortunately booked (with 5 on the waiting list) at this time. But! This certainly won't be the last of my parties. I'm thinking the one after the August party will probably be in October and be Nightmare Night themed again.

      2 · July 10, 2013

    • Christina D.

      OMC, Nightmare Night would be so. awesome. ! Crossing my hooves that it doesn't conflict with Steamcon or the parties the first weekend after Halloween. I love any extra excuses to get into costume!

      June 27, 2013

  • Toksyuryel

    It'd be more accurate to call this a "staff party" since it's open to staff members only. It's pretty tough for the rest of us to be there to appreciate those staff members when we can't attend!

    June 26, 2013

    • SR F.

      Heh! Well, you could always volunteer to work a shift at the convention. ;) (That's actually partially the point of announcing this party early. XD )

      June 27, 2013

    • Toksyuryel

      I feel as though you've missed the point of my post... I was talking about the title of the event being a bit misleading. It sounds like a party *about* staff when in reality it's a party *for* staff. I don't have an interest in attending regardless (I'd rather go to the end of summer party), I just wanted to bring that to your attention.

      June 27, 2013

  • SR F.

    Oh! Clarification since it's been asked: Yes, you should feel free to bring your significant other along to this event even if they weren't on staff.
