Welcome, Seattle Casineros! Join this growing community as more and more people in the Seattle area become familiar with Casino, the Cuban-style salsa! Casino originated in Cuba from the combination of Afro-Cuban dances and Cuban Son, among other beautiful rythms. Casino is danced in couples, but it can also be danced in a Rueda or circle (known as 'Rueda de Casino'), a fun and engaging social form of dancing where multiple couples dance together, following calls from the Rueda leader.
Casino has a distinct Cuban and Caribbean flavor with emphasys on body movement and 'sabor'. It is danced to salsa music, of course, the upbeat and contagious music that relies on the percussion to provide the perfect beat. Casino and Rueda are now danced not just in Cuba but all over the world, from China to Germany, from Venezuela to New Zealand. Other big Casino communities close to us are found in Vancouver, BC, Corvalis and Portland, OR, and San Francisco, CA, and some of these cities hold annual Casino events.
"Rumba in Havana" (Seattle) is a monthly event, that will introduce you to Cuban Music, culture and dance. Rotating Bands from other cities and guest Dj's from Miami and Europe.
