Hack on Sass Meetup

Where is it?

900 E Pine, Suite 202 , Seattle, WA

What is it?

Sass is taking presentation layer development by storm. CSS and the standards group are not moving at a pace that developers need. Sass and Compass fills that gap.

Come and hang out, listen to discussions and see presentations on the latest and greatest Sass features.

Presentation: Placeholder Selectors

One of the frustrations of OOCSS concepts is the amount of presentational classes that need to be created and the method of applying them to the DOM.

Sass has looked to address this issue first with Mixins, then Extends, each with their own issues of duplicated code or creation of unnecessary code.

The creators of Sass bring us the final piece of the puzzle, 'Placeholder Selectors!' Leverage the strength of OOCSS or SMACSS to build an effective library of reusable objects without the unsightly creation of presentational classes and the unnecessary duplication of code.

Dale Sande will be presenting to the Seattle Sass Meetup his presentation for the upcoming DrupalCon, 'SASS - OO'S'CSS W/EXTENDS AND SILENT PLACEHOLDERS'

Lightning Talk: Sass and Chrome Inspector workflow

Bryan Stedman will be presenting a lightning talk and demo on how Sass + Chrome Inspector == a kick ass workflow!

So, I came to the meetup knowing about CSS, but not the SASS or LESS pre-processor options. I have read a little about them, but have been unable to use them in my work yet. Reading today, it looks like there is a LESS vs. SASS thing going on. SASS is firmly established with the rubyists, and LESS is a bit different - I guess PHP folks like it, though it doesn't seem to be married to any particular language other than JavaScript. Which is more prevalent in industry, and which works better with JAVA or Python, or other web technologies?

Chris Coyier wrote "Sass vs. LESS" last May. It may answer some of your questions.
