It was awesome to make some small games, even if we "only" made card games. :) It was a great group, hope we can do this again soon!

Prototyping, playing with ideas and just running through the design process was awesome! Great group of folks. And yes, that arrow game should totally do a Kickstarter. ;) Thanks a lot for the fun times, everyone, and thanks for hosting, Alex!

Hi. I am STILL waiting on my car being repaired (should have been done at 11:30am).
Me and my +1 are definitely not coming at this point.

To everyone on the waiting list. Feel free to join us this Sunday but please understand that there may not be space for you if everyone shows up. In my experience we often have people who RSVP but then do not attend, so I expect there to be room.

I would love to join one of the meetings since they're on Sundays! I might not make it to the upcoming one, but gonna try for November's date once that gets closer. I go back to Nintendo on the 7th of October, but I do want to learn more about myself as a game designer/developer/producer.

So cool that these things exist! I am a gaming industry product marketer who wants to learn more about game design and development and meet people with similar interests.

It might be useful to start off with some kind of framework to help guide people. i.e. the Game Design Workshop at GDC is split between lectures on game design topics and specific exercises (you can find lots of material from this at http://eightkindsoffun.com/). I like the idea of doing paper prototypes. Maybe something out of the book Challenges for Game Designers would be good.

Any of the various schools of game design would be good to try, although I would suggest everyone sticking to some pre-agreed common framework so we're all more or less on the same page with each other wrt game design.

That sounds like a good idea and I thought about it in the last event too. But also given the 3 hour block we had, just free flowing was very engaging to a lot of people there and I felt it was productive. I felt like people were ready to get hands on right away and be productive in those 3-hours.

That's awesome and a very good thing to do. We do it all the time on the internet - they're called game jams. Except this is in person with paper, from what you're describing. So, all the people expecting someone there to kinda know what they're doing might be a little disappointed. Just sayin'.

I'm going out of town for family vacation on that weekend. Definitely will be back for November's workshop to help set it up again.

Hi, I am very new to game design and development infact I am looking forward to setup a game studio with some key ideas in mind, would this workshop be helpful for me?

    September 5, 2013

    • Alex S.

This event is for people who want to create paper prototypes. Everyone will be focused creating something in small groups. I can't say whether this would be helpful for you or not. What are you looking for specifically?

      September 6, 2013

    • Usman Z.

Anything related to Game Design & Development would help :)
