Let's start a study group for beginners

The Blue Box Pre-Cascadia Hack-Fest (http://www.eventbrite.com/event/3895660024) will be a great opportunity for beginners to get some help and hack on some cool projects! Come with ideas, questions, or just a thirst for learning and we will help you get started!

Thanks!

Carol, I'm so sorry I missed you last night. I wasn't able to make it until about 8pm. I'm going to officially put this on our calendar starting next week - and I'll be there.

See you tomorrow Elise and everyone else who wants to come?

I've poked around at both while getting started. Rails is nice because it's a lot more gratifying to create a blog in 15 minutes than to see a "Hello World" get printed out. Of course in doing so I feel like I'm missing lots of the Ruby language.

I was counseled to learn Rails first. He said it'll be easier to then learn Ruby having seen some of its basics. Anyone have more to offer on that?

I can do Tuesday at 5:30 at Cafe Vivace. I like the tie-in to the RB.

Carol - I have tried Learn to Program by Chris Pine and like it a lot, but it is Ruby fundamentals - not Rails.

How does Tuesday at 5:30 at Cafe Vivace on Capitol Hill work for all of you? I was thinking we could meet before Seattle RB (Ruby Brigade), which is a popular experts' meet up that starts at 7pm. That way, if people want to hang out later, they can.

I meant, who else has a book to suggest?

What part of town is good for all of you? I'm on the Eastside, but I expect most of you are in Seattle. Maybe there'll be one more Eastsider and we can carpool. I can meet daytime or weekend afternoons, Sun eve, most Monday eve, some Tues eve, some Thursday eve, most Friday evenings. I picked up Head First Rails and Beginning Rails 3 from the library, both of which have very good reviews on Amazon. I love the Head First books for being well designed and fun. Who else has a book?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
