Portfolios: Examples, How-tos and Informal Mentoring

This month we're focusing on portfolios and mentoring. Some stellar volunteers from our group have offered to bring their portfolio samples and walk through them with small groups, offering advice on how to create a portfolio.

Who is this session for? Everyone!

  • If you have a portfolio, you can still gather new tips AND offer advice to others in the round table about what's worked for you.
  • If you are hiring IAs and UXers and want to see some portfolios, then we'll have some great examples.
  • If you don't yet have a portfolio, we think you'll get great ideas.

We'll be starting at 7 pm this month. Your registration covers most of the food and beverage costs, while sponsors like ASIS&T help us keep this event going. Give ASIS&T a big thanks, check out a webinar http://asist.org/Conferences/webinars/

Would anyone or everyone who made it to the meet up care to post some take-aways for the rest of us who couldn't make it or were wait-listed. Thanks!

Thanks Mitsy and Isaac for organizing. It was my first time and was great. Thanks to all the mentors who have showed their portfolios and answered our questions. Looking forward for the next one!

Definitely motivating to see the different portfolios and learn that a portfolio doesn't need to be anything other than showing who you are and what you are capable of.

This was an excellent event last night. Thanks to all who mentored and presented and thanks to Misty and Isaac for putting it all together. The conversations that were started and the ideas that were generated, were invaluable. I can't wait to do this again in the future.

This was great! Thank you for another great meetup, Misty & Isaac! And thanks so much to the many wonderful mentors who took the time to give advice and walk us through their portfolios. I'd love to do this again -- and/or perhaps in a format where it's easier to walk around and see more of the mentor's portfolios.

This was terrific. I learned so much and really appreciate the work of Misty and the organizers as well as the awesome mentors who generously shared their portfolios and let us ask questions.

I thought it was really good. It's kind of too bad that there wasn't more opportunity to see all of the mentors' portfolios and it was very noisy for conversation. But the mentor at my table was wonderfully forthcoming and presentation of her portfolio very insightful. I hope there is another opportunity--I will definitely attend another and thanks to the sponsors and the mentors who opened their portfolios.

Good to know, we've talked about expanding this to another style of presentation later in the year.

I really appreciated the willingness of the mentors to talk about their portfolios and the thoughts behind them as well as answer a huge range of questions. Participants could have been exposed to more mentors had the organizer been a little more clear and directive about how to mix it up. Thanks for the event!

Thanks for the feedback, Sean. We'll keep it in mind next time we host a meetup of this nature.

I'm going to miss out on this tonight due to a competing priority. Please give my spot up to the next person on the list.

Something seems to be wrong with switching from wait list to confirmed. I tried to do so 15 minutes ago and it won't process...hmm

I am currently hiring for 3 UX roles at our company and would love to see everyone's work!
