This month, in honor of Geek Girl Con, we’ll be putting women front and center with a group of speakers who are doing a lot in the IA/UX arena. Below you’ll find brief descriptions of the talks they will give. But, before you read on, we have another small administrative announcement: we are making another small change in the event format as we continue to grow and transition. For this and all future meetups, we’ll present the option to pay directly via paypal as you RSVP (we’ll keep the fee at $10). If you have already registered, we’ll be in touch to present you with this option. If you’ve registered and prefer to pay at the door, that is still A-OK. Contact us if paying online is not an option for you.
If you can't attend, please change your RSVP status as there are only 9 spots left at this time!
All right, enough admin, read on…
GeekGirlCon celebrates and honors the legacy of women contributing to science and technology; comics, arts, and literature; and game play and game design by connecting geeky women world-wide and creating community to foster continued growth of women in geek culture through events. It will take place August 11th and 12th at the Washington State Convention Center.
We are a team of eight women who will be presenting an interactive workshop at Geek Girl Con titled "Using UX to make websites sexy." In the spirit of iteration and failing fast and often, we're using the IA/UX meetup attendees as guinea pigs. We will present our entire workshop exactly as we plan to do it at the con, and then take your feedback about how to make it even more fun and effective.
Leading with Strategy: Putting Content Before Technology
Paula will speak to how Content Strategists and Information Architects can—and should--work closely with business analysts, technical teams, and business stakeholders to keep the content and the user-- internal and external--at the forefront of technical design and implementation decisions. She'll talk briefly about what works (and doesn't work), tools and techniques you can bring to your IA & content projects.
