Posting for Pat
In April every year, I co-host a multi-meetup benefit to raise money for New Beginnings, a local Seattle women's shelter that provides housing, support and resources for women and children that need a safe haven to land until they are able to get back on their feet.
I'd like to invite and ask support from the entire Seattle Singles meetup to take part in this very worthy cause, while throwing an awesome party as a thanks to all who helped make this meetup group what it has become - the largest meetup in the Washington!
The Tractor Tavern has been gracious enough to loan us their facilities every year for this event so we throw an old-fashioned hoe-down... a big potluck party with live picken' grinnin' and some featured local talent for entertainment. There will be open acoustic jamming for any of you musician-types that want to bring an instrument down (no drums or electric equipment, please) and more food than you can shake a stick at. We'll also have at least two grillls going on the back porch if you want to bring something to BBQ.
Festivities start at 4pm. Food is available from 4-6pm as well as open-picking during this time. The featured bands will be Seattle's own Dysfunction Junction Bluegrass band and the female fronted Blackberry Bushes from Olympia, playing from 6:30-9pm.
The cost for this event is $10, and 100% of the net-proceeds goes to the women's shelter.
Please bring a dish of some sort and indicate what it is you're planning on bringing so we don't get too much duplication.
Here's some images from last year's event
I hope all of you can make it down - it's been bigger and better every year we've held this, much in part to a very active and generous meetup community in the greater Seattle area.
Finally, if you can help us get the word out, there is a Yahoo Groups folder that has posters and hand-outs available to download. Please download and post in your office and forward the info on to your friends so they can do the same. Let's use the power of the Internet to do something good for the community.
