Our general format at each meeting will be greetings, announcements, meditation, dharma talk and discussion. Don’t worry if you’ve never meditated before as I’ll supply how-to information as we go. We’ll be sitting on chairs as there isn’t room for mats and cushions. Not to worry, the first Zen Meditation classes in California were taught by a Japanese Roshi with his students sitting on chairs.
My dharma talks will tend to be focused on teachings and practices that are useful in calming the mind, opening the heart and finding peace and happiness even in the midst of everyday chaos. We’ll look at what the Buddha and his successors taught and practiced to see how these teachings are relevant to improving our own daily lives and the lives of those around us.
The discussion following the dharma talk will focus on ideas and issues raised during the talk and more generally on applying what we learn to whatever circumstances we find ourselves in.
This sangha is open to Buddhists and non-Buddhist regardless of race, religion, sexual preference or whatever else you might imagine.
