Some FAQs about hosting:
What kind of events can I hold?
Most 'secret dining' events tend to be home-based dinners provided by a host. However, there are no set rules. For example, wine/cheese events and even buffets/BBQs are all welcome. Whether you want to hold an afternoon or evening meetup - in your house or another space, there is a huge amount of flexibility. All event suggestions are encouraged!
Do I have to host on my own or can I get help from others?
Most people host on their own or with a partner/housemate. If you want to team up with another secret dining member, you can always start a discussion on the group discussions page.
How many people shall I invite?
As many as you would like to attend. Normally, events are open to at least 4-5 people. You can set a limit on the number of people that can RSVP to ensure the size of the event suits you.
Do I have to be really good at cooking?
You don't have to be very good at all - it's more about bringing people together in a friendly environment. Before the event, you can include a meal description, so if people don't want your food they won't RSVP! Most hosts stick to simple home-made dishes, while others try more sophisticated cuisine. Both approaches are popular.
Can guests bring their own food/drink?
There are no set rules. You can ask guests to bring their own drink, but this is less common with food. The best response rate comes when the event instructions to guests are clear and simple. Otherwise they might be put off.
Can I charge people to come to my event?
Most hosts charge before hand to cover the catering costs. Depending on the event, the cost is normally between $15 to $60 per person.
How does the payment process work?
Guests are prompted to pay in advance when they click the RSVP button. Their payment comes into the group Paypal account and we then pass on the payments to you a couple of days before the event.
How do I set up an event?
You can press 'schedule a new meetup' on the group homepage. You are then asked to fill in details of the event such as a description, date, time, cost and number of guests you would like to attend. We are then able to announce it to the group.
hi. Remington & Angela Caldwell. We live in Carmichael
I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
