Re: [biblestudy-445] New Meetup: Exploring Gnostic Christiantiy - Gosple of Phillip - Important Announcement

John,

Not a problem.? I'm hoping that SPIN may find value in including a dialog with atheists as a regular program, which would have some of the benefits of the SBS.? The current make up of the group are half people who are trying to catch the presenter off guard and half who are trying to learn something.? The half who have more then a passing familiarity with the Bible may be well suited to teaching the other half.

Thanks,
Bjorn

Thanks for taking care of this.

By the way, I didn't mean to drop your question about expert resources I may know of.

Unfortunately, the only person I can think of who would be really good to bring on board is going on Sabbatical at the end of this month, and will be in California for the next 7 months.? I'll continue to mull this over and maybe check my Linked-In contacts list!!!

John

Subject: [biblestudy-445] New Meetup: Exploring Gnostic Christiantiy - Gosple of Phillip - Important Announcement

Announcing a new Meetup for Secular Bible Study!

What: Exploring Gnostic Christiantiy - Gosple of Phillip - Important Announcement

When: January 5,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
Trinity United Methodist Church
2511 Taylor Street NE
Minneapolis, MN 44418
[masked]

This session, John will continue our discussion of the Gnostics by examining texts from the Bible and the Gospel of Phillip. You don't need to have participated in the past meetings to get something out of this presentation.

Please bring your Bibles to the presentation.

January 19 will feature a presentation on ethics, using the book, "The Age of Empathy" as a guide. It explores what may be the foundations of empathy among humans and other animals. It will be up to you to decide if your find Frans De Waal's arguments convincing.

January 5th will likely be the last presentation John will be able to attend until May. January 19th will also mark the last day as my involvement as co-organizer of the SBS. This shouldn't worry members, as there are plenty of people in the group who have expressed a desire to put the energy into the project which John and I can not afford to provide.

The success of the group will be up to the input of its members. Use Meetup to communicate. There is a full Message Board and Mailing List you can use to communicate to each other. The next meeting in February may be a great time to get people together to voice opinions about topics, the focus of the group, who should be in charge, and whether the meeting location and/or time should be changed.

Thank you for your participation,
Bjorn Watland

THE WIZARD: As for you, my galvanized friend, you want a heart. You don't know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.

TIN MAN: But I still want one!
