Hey, one last thing.. I don't have a last name to be able to facebook you.. You could always facebook me though.. My picture is the picture on my profile here (Not the one with me in the brown shirt, the one with me in the hoodie and red shirt.. the darker pic)
My name is Joseph Villa. Look me up! later!
After a long conversation and some contemplating, I decided that I cannot take the Bible at face value. The idea of the earth being created in 7 days and being 6,000 years old with the proof of Dinosouars, Fossils and other human being like creatures that roamed the earth.. It was really hard to believe. That and some of the teachings from our founding fathers NOT being Christian, yet the Religious Right tends say they were made me believe this is all an agenda for control.
Which made me question whether Christianity was real.. With another more recent exgirlfriend (who is now a really good friend of mine), I started going to church again and got into arguments with the clergy about certian portions of the bible and their teachings/interpretations being really off kilter.. After talking with my Jewish friend (who will probably become an Athiest too) I discovered that all I've been taught about Christ and the Supernatural had to either be Wrong or never happened..
The path started a LONG time ago.. I was with an ex girlfriend and her parents, I was converting to Catholism from Luthren because that was a stipulation if we were ever to get married. I found out about the Trinity and thought it was totally bunk from what I've read. Then I discovered it was in almost every Christian Religion. So, I then started out researching religions to see what fit my views, I studied Mormonism, Islam, and others.. Those turned out to have weird things about them too..
LOL funny.. I started into Diesm and then a Jewish friend turned me on to a book called "The Jesus Dynasty". We had a conversation and with that there was an epiphony which killed off any faith I had in a God. It's been weird living out of the Matrix, I'll tell you that much. I understand totally when you talk about the blinders being off. It's flipped whatever political views, life views, everything upside down. It's the real test of whether someone has an open mind.
Agreed with your profile..
I too am an ex Christian... I now classify myself as an Athiest. I know.. I'm Godless, funny.. I never thought I'd say that. :-)
What tipped you over the edge? Where are your ideas leaning towards now?
Thanks, BTW, my name is Joe.. I'm new to this group, how are the meetings?
