Hi Secular Hikers,
Weather permitting; there will be a hike on Sunday, March 3rd at Ute Valley Park and for those who are adventurous, we will send the rest of the people back to the parking lot while we explore the top of the ridge.
Part 1 of the Hike: There are several trails from which to choose. Most of the trails are relatively easy trails. If you do not want to explore the top of the ridge, you can head back on an easy downhill obvious path back to the parking lot with other people just before the end of the hike. You should be back to your car by early afternoon.
Part 2 of the Hike: This is for only adventurous experienced hikers. The top of the ridge is not very strenuous to explore, but it is somewhat technically challenging. There are spots where you need to be careful. If you are not paying attention to your footing, the result could be broken bones or even death. I explored this ridge with my hiking buddy a few weeks ago. Neither of us are rock climbers, we are just careful so we do not fall. This was one of the most interesting places I have explored for quite some time. This section of the hike will take at least 1 to 2 extra hours. We will be back to our cars by mid to late afternoon.
As with all hikes, I am not responsible for your safety. However, I will do my best to guide everyone on the hikes to try to avoid accidents.
The trailhead parking lot is off Vindicator Drive a bit east of Centennial Blvd, but it is very small and very crowded on weekends. There is on street parking on Bison Ridge Drive if the trailhead parking lot is full. Therefore, we will carpool from the Woodmen Valley park-n-ride. To get there from Interstate 25 and Woodmen Road, go west to the first stop light, turn left (south) on Corporate Drive, turn right (west) at the first intersection onto Mark Dabling Blvd, take an immediate right turn into the parking lot. We will leave the Woodmen Valley park-n-ride at 10:00 AM. We will divide the group into two parts. Those who want to explore the ridge should not ride with people who do not care to do the entire hike.
For those who would prefer to meet at the trailhead parking lot, it is a bit east of Centennial Blvd just south of Vindicator Drive, near Bison Ridge Drive. However, I would prefer that almost no one do this because the parking lot is extremely small.
We will all be stopping for a light lunch before some people head back to the parking lot. So, please bring enough water and snacks on the hike.
Please let me know if you plan on attending the hike. If you change your mind, please let me know that also.
