Hike Templeton Gap Trail

Hi Secular Hikers,

Weather permitting; there will be a hike on Sunday, March 17th on Templeton Gap Trail. We will meet at the parking lot just south of an outhouse (closed in winter) located at 3650 Mark Dabling Blvd. (Yes the address is on the small building.) It is 0.7 miles north of Fillmore St. and 0.9 miles south of Garden of the Gods Rd. on the west side of the street. We will head south on the Front Range Trail for a short distance to the Templeton Gap Trail then head east towards Palmer Park.

Depending on the weather and the desires of the group, we will probably be stopping for a light lunch after we reach Palmer Park. The total elevation gain is about 200 to 300 feet. We will be returning the way we came. The total distance hiked will be about 6 to 7 miles. I consider this hike a relatively easy hike. The hike will start at 10:00 AM. We will be back to our cars by mid afternoon. If anyone needs to get back earlier, they can return to their cars on their own or in small groups.

Please bring enough water and snacks on the hike. Also, bring a rain coat if there is a chance of rain.

Please let me know if you plan on attending the hike. If you change your mind, please let me know that also.

For and in-city hike in the winter, it was very good. The weather was somewhat iffy once we finally made it to Palmer Park. I always enjoy the conversations with my fellow hikers.

The weather turned out to be great. The scenery improved a great deal after we got to Palmer Park.

A two hour call would be helpful if at all possible since Finn and I are an hour away.

I will call you in the unlikely event that the hike is canceled.

Rich, the National Weather Service is currently calling for a better than 50% chance of 2-4 inches of accumulating snow on the Palmer Divide on Saturday night, with a reduced amount of accumulating snow possible in the Colorado Springs city limits.

Could you post an update to this Meetup page an hour or two before the start time for this hike, confirming whether the hike is going to occur?

In general, the hike is on unless I cancel at least 1 to 2 hours before the hike. The weather report this (Friday) evening predicts Sunday morning will be dry. There is a small chance for rain Sunday, late afternoon. I would suggest bringing your rain coat just in case. This trail is mostly either paved or gravel, so a wet trail is fine.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
