Hike Garden of the Gods Park

Hi Secular Hikers,

Weather permitting; there will be a hike in Garden of the Gods Park on Sunday, June 15th. The hike will be 5 to 7 mile loop going to Siamese Rocks, up to Rampart Range Road then back down past Balanced Rock.  This is hike easy to moderate.

Please meet at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post at 324 Beckers Ln.  Park either in the upper lot just west of the Trading post, or in the east lot, and leave the parking directly in front of the building for their customers.

Please bring enough water and snacks for the hike.

The hike will start at 9:00 AM.

Georgianne and I will not be able to attend this hike. It will be led by Doris Drisgill, phone number:  418-5345.

Please let Doris know if you plan on attending the hike. If you change your mind, please let her know that also.

Rich [masked])

p.s. If this is your first hike with the Secular Hikers or if you have already given more than $0.50 per person per hike you attended or $10.00 within the last year, please ignore this message.

It costs me $72 twice a year to be a meetup organizer.  Would you please consider helping by sharing this expense?  If I receive about $0.50 per person (including guests) per hike or (to avoid a bunch of quarters) $1.00 per person about every other hike you attend, I would come out roughly even.

If I am unable to attend the hike, please give the hiking leader the money so he or she can pass it on to me.

Thanks, everybody, for coming yesterday. I enjoyed meeting all of you I hadn't seen before, and hope to see you again on future hikes.
Anyone who is interested in wildflowers should check out conps.org and click on the Southeast Chapter to find our fieldtrip schedule and sign up for some amateur botanizing.

Excellent first hike with the group. Beautiful weather and a good group to hike with. Thanks Doris for leading and the plant discussion.

    Hello to everyone.

This was a moderately easy hike in sunny and mild conditions. Doris did a great job of keeping us on the trail and providing information about the plants we encountered along the way.

Per my GPS watch, we covered 4.69 miles in three hours and fifteen minutes, with a total ascent of 1001 feet. The highest point was at 7087 feet. Additional details, including a map showing our hiked path, are available here: http://www.movescount.com/moves/move33830514.

The MovesCount web site defaults to the metric system. If you'd like to see the measurements in imperial numbers, create a free account and modify your settings.

I uploaded eighteen photos to the Photos section.

    Everyone:

The Forest Service announced it will reopen Cap'n Jacks and other trails in the Bear Creek Basin to hikers and mountain bikers later this month, per today's article in "The Gazette:" http://gazette.com/popular-colorado-springs-trail-network-could-reopen-next-week/article/1521286?trend=1.
