Hike Pulpit Rock Park

Hi Secular Hikers,

There will be a hike to the back of Pulpit Rock Park on Sunday, July 20th.  Meet at the trailhead parking lot, (GPS coordinates:[masked],[masked]) directions below.  (Please look at the map ahead.  This parking lot is hard to find.) The difficulty level of this hike is relatively easy.  However, there will be off trail exploring in the park.  The elevation gain is about two hundred feet with a round trip distance of a few miles.

The hike will start around 9:00 AM.

Georgianne and I will not be able to attend this hike.  It will be lead by Gary Betchan, phone number: 659-5075.

Please bring enough water and snacks for the hike.

Please let Gary know if you plan on attending the hike. If you change your mind, please let him know that also.

Directions coming from the north on Interstate 25:  Take exit 149, turn left onto Woodmen Road, go 0.3 miles, turn right onto Vincent Drive, go 0.7 miles, turn right (which is really continuing going north) on to Dublin which soon becomes Nevada Ave.  The trailhead parking lot is in 0.5 miles on the left.

Directions coming from the south on Interstate 25:  Take exit 148, turn right onto Nevada Avenue, go 0.3 miles, turn left onto Nevada Avenue (5600 N – 6500 N), go 0.6 miles.  The trailhead parking lot is on the right.

Directions from Dublin and Academy:  head west on Dublin, go 1.0 mile, turn left onto Dublin which soon becomes Nevada.  After this turn (by Vincent), continue south 0.5 miles, the trailhead is on the left.

Note:  The road in front of the trailhead parking lot is relatively new.  I suggest looking at www.mapquest.com using GPS coordinates:[masked],[masked] in advance so you can see this road and trailhead if you have not been on it already.

p.s. If this is your first hike with the Secular Hikers or if you have already given more than $0.50 per person per hike you attended or $10.00 within the last year, please ignore this message.

It costs me $72 twice a year to be a meetup organizer.  Would you please consider helping by sharing this expense?  If I receive about $0.50 per person (including guests) per hike or (to avoid a bunch of quarters) $1.00 per person about every other hike you attend, I would come out roughly even.

If I am unable to attend the hike, please give the hiking leader the money so he or she can pass it on to me.

The conditions were dry, warm at first, then very warm to hot toward the end of the hike.

Gary took us to the saddle behind the Pulpit Rock, then we explored a number of obscure trails. And we did some bushwhacking and scrambling.

We covered just over four miles in a bit over two and a half hours, gaining 351 feet from the trailhead to the highest achieved altitude. Our total ascent was 843 feet (lots of ups and downs on our route).

Additional numbers, per my GPS watch, may be found here: http://www.movescount.com/moves/move36293782. The MovesCount website defaults to the metric system; if you'd prefer the imperial system, create a free login account and modify your settings.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
