Hike on Sunday, Sept. 4th.
Hi Hiking Freethinkers,
Weather permitting, there will be a hike on Sunday, Sept. 4th. There will be 4 hikes from which to choose.
Hike 1) Spruce Mountain. This is a relatively easy 5 1/2 mile round trip hike with an elevation gain of a few hundred feet. A portion the the hike to the top of Spruce is of moderate steepness, but almost everyone should be able to do this hike. I consider this to be a relatively easy hike. We would be carpooling from my house. People who live north of Monument may want to go directly to the trailhead.
Hike 2) Seven Bridges Trail maybe to Jones Park. Depending on how far we want to go on the trail, this can be anywhere from a relatively easy hike to somewhat difficult.
Hike 3) Chautauqua Trail 715. It starts on the south west edge of the town of Palmer Lake and heads towards Mount Herman. There are short sections that the trail is extremely steep. Overall the trail has a relatively gradual incline. I would rate this trail as intermediate in difficulty. We can decide as a group how far we would like to go up this beautiful valley (or to the top of Mount Herman). We would be leaving from my house and carpooling to the trailhead.
Hike 4) Hike to the top of Muscoco Mountain. This hike starts out on the Mount Cutler trail. About half way to the top of Mount Cutler, the trail to the top of Muscoco Mountain turns off. From here the trail becomes very steep and somewhat difficult in spots. However, the effort is rewarded with spectacular views. The elevation gain is about 1000 feet, but feels like a lot more. According to the Happy Trails description in the Gazette, the round trip is only 3 miles. I find that hard to believe.
p.s. If you vote for a hike and that is the one selected, you are expected to attend. If you do not, your vote will count less in the future.
