Hi Secular Hikers,
Weather permitting; there will be a hike on Monday, March 17th. This hike will be Jones Park Loop. This is a relatively difficult hike with a significant elevation gain. This will be an all day hike. Some of us plan on going out to dinner after the hike.
We will start the hike heading towards Seven Bridges Trail. This is one of the most beautiful trails in the Pikes Peak Region. Then we go up to Jones Park. We will be coming down Bear Creek trail, then cutting across on Captain Jacks and returning on Buckhorn Trail. The round trip is about 7 miles with 1950 ft. elevation gain. I consider this hike to be somewhat difficult. It is rated a 3 boot in the Gazette Happy Trails. We will be completing the hike by mid to late afternoon.
Some of us will be carpooling from the Woodmen Valley park-n-ride. To get there from Interstate 25 and Woodmen Road, go west to the first stop light, turn left (south) on Corporate Drive, turn right (west) at the first intersection onto Mark Dabling Blvd, take an immediate right turn into the parking lot. We will be leaving this parking lot at 8:15 AM.
There is a good chance that there will be snow and ice on the trail. I highly recommend that everyone on the hike have micro spikes (available at REI).
Please bring enough water and snacks for the hike.
Please let me know if you plan on attending the hike and where you will meet us. If you change your mind, please let me know that also. Please RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/Secular-Hikers/events/170363802/.
p.s. It costs me $72 twice a year to be a meetup organizer. Would you please consider helping by sharing this expense? If I receive about $0.50 per person (including guests) per hike or (to avoid a bunch of quarters) $1.00 per person about every other hike you attend, I would come out roughly even.
