Planning/brainstorming session - all are welcome!

Our newly elected Board members:

Clifton S Heather N Keith D Marshall M Mike B Rachel H Steve B

Three Board members cannot be with us; however, we have plenty to talk about. Everyone is invited to help the effort to promote the secular community in Texas. We need volunteers for various jobs and committees. We also will discuss some of our immediate concerns dealing with the Lege and other matters. There is a listing of the committees on Meetup - at the top of the page choose More and Files.

    I had a change of plans and will not be able to attend either. I'll be in Bastrop for the evening.

    It looks like I might have to be out of town for the weekend of July 14. But I could be available by Skype or something for the meeting.

    Huzzah! The Board. I've been grossly remiss, but probably not missed. Things are on hold for me at the moment, and I can't make the rally later today which really hurts. I'm with you in spirit! It seems god has moved me way up on his shit list, after totaling my truck about 6 weeks ago, Monday two weeks ago, coming home from my 3rd Monday of the month, BookPeople book club, I found my house had just been put out by the firemen. Right now, taking care of this is sucking up most of my time, like now it is 1:23 AM Monday morning and I'm headed over to my house to take care of stuff. On the bright side, it looks like the feds aren't seizing the house, so I can stay there for the foreseeable future, if the landlord, now in prison in Florida, and his ex, can deal with taking care of repairing the house, and if i can refrain from murdering all the claim-adjusters involved in this thing. Good luck with stuff, I still plan on making some events, the documentary coming up for sure.

    Will nominations only take place? Or will actual appointments be taking place? I will e-mail the board with my recommendations and intentions in either case as my presence isn't needed.

    This is the same day as Hemant Mehta's lecture in San Antonio. A couple of people have RSVP'd to both. Is anyone planning on going to both events?

      It is the same day. I decided not to see Hemant Mahta, but that's partly because driving is hard on my back.

    Congratulations to everyone who was elected. For the rest of the year I will focus all my attention on the adoption of science instructional materials by the Texas State Board of Education. Go to texscience.org for more information (which I still need to write).

    I did watch the last three hours of Wendy Davis's filibuster on the live video stream until well after midnight. I was very impressed by the actions of the "unruly mob," i.e., concerned Texas citizens who oppose the imposition of unnecessary, callous, and cruel fundamentalist Christian bigotry on working class pregnant women of Texas by cheering and jeering those radical religious-right Republican State Senators who are responsible for the imposition.

    Soon we will be able to buy a tee-shirt with "I am a Proud Member of the UNRULY MOB!" on the front. On the back will be this gender inclusive poem:

    We few, we happy few, we band of sisters and brothers;
    For he or she today that shouted his or her outrage with me
    Shall be my brother and sister; be she or he ne’er so vile,
    This day shall gentle his or her condition;
    And gentlemen and gentlewomen in Texas now-a-bed
    Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
    And hold their manhoods and sisterhoods cheap whiles any speaks
    That cheered and jeered with us upon the last day of the First Special Session.
