The Secular Show: The Incredible Journey of Crude Oil

Consider the greatest mysteries of all time: the creation of the universe (the "Big Bang"), the creation of the solar system, the start of life on Earth (the "little bang"), the evolution and migration of the human species, why Jews consider themselves God's chosen people, the birth and spread of Christianity, and how humans will survive the consequences of overpopulation, resource depletion, and global warming. These and any number of lesser questions have scientific and mythological explanations.

The Skeptics Shows is about becoming aware of the questions and responses. The first meeting will feature a documentary called "The Incredible Journey of Crude Oil," a documentary produced by the Australian Broadcasting Company. The movie will walk us through the first uses of oil and the exponential increase in demand in the 20th century. It is provided by Randy Bancroft. If you have never wondered about life after oil, now might be a good time to start.

It's about time we start being informed about the truth of what is really going on in the world, as hard as it may be to face. Big business, religion and even the government don't want us to know the reality of the problems we are up against. The video we watched was fascinating, and presented the whole oil economy as an addiction that is hurling all of us toward a brick wall.

It may be sewing the seeds of its own destruction but, where would we have been without it? Cutting down trees and digging coal? The whales had almost been hunted to extinction.

A roaring success for the premier show in the series.
