Come Plant Flowers at the Hub!

Food! Friends! Drawing prize! And a job well done.....

Come join us as we beautify the Hub! We'll be installing planters along Downing and 31st Ave. filled with a variety of lovely plants to welcome members and visitors to the Secular Hub. We are fortunate to have an award-winning florist, Lilli Black from Bella Calla (right next door to the Hub!), designing this project. She and her staff will help us out on Saturday and, if we're lucky, we may pick up a few gardening tips from the experts!

"11:00?", you say.... "But, that's almost lunchtime! I'll be starving!" Not to worry - there'll be free refreshments while we're working, and grilled hotdogs (both regular and vegan) afterward, at about 1:00. Bring a hat, work gloves if you have them, and a willingness to get a little dirty. We'll provide tools, gloves for those who need them, and sunscreen for anyone who's forgotten theirs. AND, just for fun, there'll be a drawing for a great prize! We'll have a great time!

A huge thanks to all of our hardworking volunteers and the great people at Bella Calla for making this project such a great success! We were so busy that we forgot to do our drawing while everyone was still there, but every participant's name was included when we did draw a name at the end of the day. Jesses Powell was the lucky winner of a hardcover edition of "The Greatest Show On Earth", by Richard Dawkins.

"Jesse" - sorry! I forgot the mantra: proofread, proofread, proofread.... :)

A very welcome beautification project for the local street corner. A project that will make the neighbors proud. Thanks to all who helped with this community effort.

I backed out of going hiking with the atheists today, figuring that planting flowers would be easy, but now I've gone and done something to my knee, so I don't think I'll be leaving the house :-(

Let me tell you, this "getting old" stuff sure is getting old!

If anyone has a wheelbarrow that they can bring, please let me know ASAP. Thanks! Also, bring along a rain jacket, just in case we have a drizzle. John Marks will make some great smoothies for us - yum!

Rene, I don't think we'll need it after all. Lilli ended up buying dirt by the bag.

Wish I could, but have to be in Portland, OR that weekend.

Darn would love to do this, but going out of town for the holiday weekend. I hope the flowers are coming from our great neighbors next door at Bella Calla? :)

Lilli at Bella Calla doesn't sell bedding plants, but she is designing the project; selecting the plants; and she and her staff are supervising the installation/planting. We're very lucky! Sorry you'll miss it, but you can enjoy the finished project the next time you're at the Hub.

Hey Gunda, thanks for heading up this much-needed project. It should really help improve the looks of the place. I'm hoping you're planning on planting something in the pots on each side of the entry door. Sorry I can't join you.

Yes, Charlie, we will! It's good that we waited; Lilli is invaluable! ....And we'll miss you on Saturday.

Oh, and the hotdogs are free, too!
