What can we do to promote the metric system?

This will be a guided brainstorming session to answer a question that was asked after Randy Bancroft's lecture in June. Anyone who is interested in finishing the switch to metric is welcome.

I have chosen a brainstorming session because each time I talk to someone, I get different ideas about how to proceed, and a guided brainstorming provides opportunities to communicate information in a memorable way. As an example, I participated in a volunteer brainstorming session to help a small business plan an opening event. This business had an alligator as part of its logo, and we started to come up with all kinds of alligator related ideas. We had ideas for buttons, for cartoons, murals, people in alligator customs, and even ideas about live alligators, some pretty crazy. Someone said, "Wouldn't it be great if we had a live alligator do X?" and someone replied, "I have a friend who has an alligator who does that." At the end of twenty minutes we had discussed what makes a good opening event, the nature of alligators, and determined that this business had a good logo.
